In last weeks Advance we ha a little local to the effect that Gardner and McDonald were going to have a car-load of dogs shipped in, whioh would be for sale at the price ot $3 a piece. A clerk in one of our popular stores, read the notice, and being desirous of purchasing a "pup" lor his own amusement. He kept a vigillant eye on each freight-train that come in, with the view of getting first choice ot the dogs.

Last Monday some of the "boys" took two or three little paper dogs (soap adveitisment) down to the Frisco Depot and placed tbem in a car, then came up town and noif ed it about that the dogs had come. Thinking this a good opportunity to se-cme his long desired treasure, he looked up the agent for the dog, and informed him that he wished to buy a bird dog; lie was told that he could not only get a dog, but could have first choice; this, the good-looking clerk regarded as a great favor. He was apprized as to the time when the cur was to be opened; in company with the supposed agent and about twenty friends, (who went along to see him make his selection.) lie marched gallantly down to the The. car was thrown open, and a peep was taken by 'the clerk.
