Adams, Llnwood, Kan. Mr, Henry Knabe, who resides near Jewetts, in this township, has moved his family into tho Whltford house on Locust stroet, for tho purposo of sending his children to school hero. There is a genorally expressed opinion throughout this school district that tho school board has shown good judgment and evinced a deep interest In the wolfaro of the school, in the very excellent plans and arrangements they have mado for tho maintenance of tho school for tho coming school year. It to be hoped that they will bo earnestly seconded in their efforts by the patrons of the school. It Is to be rcgrottcd that the position tho Kansas City Star Has taken in regard to tho conduct of tho war has caused such a falling off of tho patronage of that paper at this placo, as to seriously affect tho pay of tho carrier hero, Muster Walter Farnham, who desorves to bo well rewarded for his untiring energy and promptness, in all kinds of weather, and his manly efforts in trying to support and educate himself.

Warring, tho oldest physician Communicated. To tho Editor of tho Ledger: As I have been informed that you have said that you would publish short communications on any legitimate and proper subject, that would be of interest to your readers. I have concluded to express my views on the question now agitating the people of Lin-wood, in regard to doing away with tho city corporation I want to say that I have closely watched the effect of tho enforcement of the city ordinances, and find that their effect is of great benefit to us in many ways, but more particularly as regards drunkenness and rowdyism on our streets and public places. Before the town was incorpoaated, it was no uncommon thing to see men drunk in different pluces in town, quarreling, swearing and using the vilest language possible for men to uso regardless of the presence of womtfn and innocent children, who wcro powerless to help or restrain it. I always felt afraid to send one of my children on an errand of any kind, any distance from their home, and was very uneasy while they were gone.

Tho horse racing and promiscuous shooting of revolvers, kept me frightened and nervous, while the persistence and insolence of the tramp made life a misery and this added to the "buy something to-day mam," of the hang on and never let go peddlers of cheap goods, consumed nearly all one's time from tho performance of needed household duties. In regard to these things there has been a decided change for the better, and an Improvement that no one can help but see nnd appreciate, except those who don't want to see it and who prefer to havo ruffianism predominate, and their "dear, inalienable right" to all the whisky they are able to guzzle, not interfered with. There is another important and noticeable fact connected with the enforcement of the city ordinances, viz: that four legged fists nnd curs aro much smaller in number than during tho anti-corporation days, and under further corporate rule there is every reason to believe that they grow still smaller in number, as well as those of the other kind. I expect my letter is growing too long, but I desire to add in conclusion that I hopo that every wifo and mother in tho town of Lin-wood will, by her words and acts, antagonize tho proposed efforts to do away with tho incorporation of Lin-wood as a city of tho third class.
