Question of Gas Franchise Considered. Other Matters of Importance Considered 'The city council met in regular session at their council chamber Tuesday evening and transacted more business and manifested more interest than at. any previous meeting the past year. All mem. hers were present and the question of grunting a gas franchise was the first to claim their attention.

I The gas company had a petition signed up which was rend by the clerk and presented for consideration. G. W. Rensor was in receipt. of a communication from Gas City, giving gas rates at that place and the Company here granted permission to submit this proposition which wils substan.

tially as follows: The franchise was to last for period of twenty years, and the -Company bound themselves to have gas piped into the town on or before Jan. 1st 1904 and gas was to be furnished at the followling rates and for terms of six months, commencing in October and ending in April: Cook stove $1.50 per month, two cook stoves $200; henting stove $1.50, two heating stoves 82.00 per month and $1.00 for each additional. Lights 10 cents for single light ol' three for 25 cents and 5 ants for each additional light. Nothing in regard to gas engines or boilers was mentioned and for that reason nothling definite was done. A committee of two consisting of W. D. Sturges and Oscar Froman were appointed to investigate further and they made a trip to Coffeyrille yesterday in quest. of gus knowledge.

The council Were unanimous in favor of granting a franchise on terms that were greeuble. An ordinance repealing the ordinance relating to bowling ulleys and pool tables, was introduced and on motion to suspend rules and take netion on same, the motion was turned down and the ordinance referred to the ordinance committee for action at next meeting. The or. dinance further provided licence for running same. It was proposed to build crossings to euch of the churches and without taking definite netion they adjourned to meet to-morrow (Saturday) night when definite action will be taken in regard to these gestions.
