Tonight the new citizens rejoice in the wisdom that laid such broad foundations and made it possible for our city to become one of the leading cities of the west As new citizens we rejoice that our lot has been cast in Wyandotte. The postponement of the water works test to last Saturday did not detract any from the interest taken in the recently acquired improvement, and the number of people present was fully as large as tliat assembled one week before when the pipe gave way. At about half past three o'clock the Kansas City fire department with No. 1 hose cart arrived in the city, and at the headquarters of our local department, a procession was formed headed by the Wyandotte comet band, followed by the Wyandotte fire company and the visiting department of Kansas City.

We would not be doing our duty in reporting the completion and acceptance of the Wyandotte Water. Works, should we fail to state that the thanks of every citizen of Wyandotte are due to Mr. V. J. Hon. J. B. The hose was attached to the hydrants at different places down Minnesota avenue and in eveiy instance proved perfectly satisfactory. After the test was made at the Third street hydrant, and after those within easy reach Had been sprinkled, the two squads of the local department engaged in a hose battle, that furnished more amusement to the square minute than any one thing that has occurred in the city in a month. The boys stood up well and Maj. Drought in particular showed that he was as gritty as a rock bass fried in sand. Some of the boys after the conflict had ended, looked somewhat disfigured but they seemed to enjoy the fun as much as anybody.

A sumptuous repast was provided at the engine house and as soon as the firemen returned, the boys, including the Kansas City department, sat down to as square a meal as aver went into a Wyandotter's stomach. Thus far everything passed off pleasantly and smoothly, and every one was willing to talk about the water works, and in terms of praise in favor of the projectors of the daily visits to keep apace with them. Nice two story brick business houses are fast supplanting the cheap frame structures that have for several years past frowned on the passerby on James street, the principal thoroughfare, but the building boom has struck the city, and it is making strides towards substantiality. For a number of years many of the lots on James and other streets have been owned by those who could see a great future for Kansas City, Kansas, and desired to lease their lots to such as would take them, and thereby hold them water works.
