If it bo true, thnt tho Governor has como to thin conclusion wo consider it a just snd sensiblo one, and shall have to award him more credit for honesty of purpose in an official capacity than wo have heretofore been willing to grant. We very well know that at the time Mr. Jolly came to this office to take our names, ages, former placo of residence, place of birth of ourselves and parents, whether foreign or American born, (he should have asked whether abolition or pro-slavery Lorn,) and other unlawful, outlandish, nonsensical questions, it was bitter cold, so much so that our writing ink was frozen hard.

To satisfy tho census taker, we promptly answered all his questions, but we must confess wo didn't feel very jolly in doing so, as we considered some of his questions rather impertinent and out of place in his Free-soil majosty. We regard it nothing more than fair or just that the Governor should bo somewhat applauded for his judgment in this Instance. Perhaps, with all his free-soil notions, be is, disposed to Jtie just in some things. If he does view the matter in the same light that a large majority of our Squatters do, we should award him all it- occupied with a sufficient population to GEO. W.

Dry Goods and (J roceriof Cki i ur have a question presented to our states in another column of this new town, which is boing laid off at Dawson's crossing of Stranger Creek on the Military Road leading to Fort Riley, and on to Now Mosioo and California. It has been long known as an Indian trading post, and from its location, the rich and fertile country by which it is suiroundod, the great body of timber, and tW-almost inexhaustible supply of coal aid lime rock in the vicinity, the beauty of the spot and its healthy situation, wo caniot holp believing that it will be one of fho most important inland towns in tho "jerritory.

A largo number of towi have been laid off in Kansas, and soincpf them possess advantages, but wo kow of none that possess more than docs laston. The narrow and contracted policy pursued by the proprietors of some of tiem will retard their growth, but the Eastern Association have determined to lursuo a liberal policy, and from whoj we know of the gentlemen composing it are led to believe that it will suocwd. Porsons wishing to invest money in inland town property could not do bettef than to purchase there. Already is tho country around it thickly settled, aid mechanics of all kinds would probably find plenty of employment there.
