Saturday night the long anticipated May pole came off. All the seats and much of the available standing room was occupied with spectators, gentlemen and ladies from among oar best people constituted the large audience. The skating was performed by couples of select, trained skaters who did their parts perfectly to the time of music. Those present were of the most cultured of our citizens, and were highly pleased and edified by the distinguished lady, as evidenced by the hearty and frequent rounds of applause that burst forth at each successive display of her wonderful elocutionary powers, and her life-like portrayal of her subjects. The lad has a powerful and highly cultivated voice, and her power of modulation-is truly wonderful. Her delivery was faultless and her mover nients most charmingly graceful. Probably no other entertainment given in the opera house this season was more entertaining nor more thoroughly appreciated. Gasoline at H.

Mr-Rowland is well known here and has the sympathy of many friends in his affliction. The death occurred Saturday evening- caused by consumption. Dr. Fisher's lecture upon Kansas, Saturday night, drew a large house, and was exceedingly interesting, drawing forth frequent applause. The attention of the entire house was invited upon the speaker, throughout the evening.

His description of the early days and the Quantrell raid especially, were of especial interest. Dr. Fisher will always draw a good house in Winfield. Worden vs Lindon O. Fbrden.

A case of Dennis relative to township scrip, Winfield township, was called and being argued at noon to-day. The jury was still out in the case of Andrews Losur against Richard Gates at twelve o'clock to-day. This term will probably close to-day.
