UAILKOADS. IIAILUUADS. RAILROADS. WASHINGTON CITY ADV'MTS. IB nil, i IMPORTANT CHANGES.

The celebrated artist, who crowed to naturally that tho sun rose three hours before his time, has recently finished a picture of the moon that ia painted with such wonderful fidelity to nature that it can't be seen in the day-time. A story is going the rounds, of a party of young ladies who were caught in a shower, and had the color washed from their cheeks. A lady at our elbow thinks the color in some of tho genilemeus cheeks will not bo washed out with water at preset. "This must bo looked into," as the spoiled child said to his father's wutch when he heard it tick. Dr.

Johnson, iu" reply to a ludy who snked him if he was fond of music, said "No; but of all noises I consider it the least disagrenble." In a dialogue which Dolls had with himself the other night, he enme to the conclusion that the best, way to succeed with a woman is, to brag of her baby and Stick to Your Eusiness, Thero ia nothing which should bo my re frequently impressed upon the minds of ouiiff men thun the importance of steadi-y pursuing some one business. The frequent changing from ono employment to another is one of the most common errors committed, and to it may be tracod more than half tho failures of men in business, and much of the discontent and disnp- iointmenU that render life uncomfortable, is a wry common thing1 for a man to become dissatisfied with his business, and to desire to change it for some other, and, whnt seems to him, will prove more lucrative employment; but in nine cases out of ton it is a mistake. Look 'round you, and you will find abundant verification of our assertion. Here ia a young man who commenced life as a mechanic, but for some cause imagined that he ought to havo been doctor; and after a hasty tshnllow preparation, has taken up the saddle bags only to find that work is still work, and that his patients are no more profitable than his work-bench, and the occupation not a bit more ngreeable. Here are two young men, clerks ono of them is content, when his first term of service is over, to continue a clerk until he has money enough to commence business on his own account; the other can't wait, but starts oT without copital and with a CITY OF WASHINGTON, -Potawatomie County, X.

T. THE site for this Citv Is one of the most beautiful In Kansas Territory, It being Immediately on the north bank of the Kansas river, just west ot the Potawatomie Reserve, and within a few miles of the St. Mary's Mission, where the General Government disburses to the Potawatomie Indians over Thirty Thousand Dollars per annum. Those Indians have been in the habit of disposing of their funds In some of the river towns. The securing of this trade, in connections ith the densely populated country around, (which Is unsurpassed by any in the territory,) Induced the proprietors to lay it oil' Into lots and blocks.

They have now a plat of the Citylithrographed, and are pursuing the most liberal pitllcy to mechanics and others who settle there. A sawmill is In full operation, and as timber is in great abundance, lumber can be had on the spot at a very small profit over actual cost. There will be over ono hundred houses erected there the coming fall. The Railroad from this city will pass Immediately through it, as the prolile of the road will show, made by the direction of the Corporators of the Railroad Co. The Parkvillo Road will have to push through Washington also, as it will cost twenty times more to build a roud on the south side of Kansas river, than it will on the north side.

Tiicse roads completed, (and they will bo in three years,) wo have a direct Railroad communication from all parts of the United States to the interior of Kansas. For a ssfo investment iu the interior of Kansas, it is not surpassed. The "Leavenworth Times" speaking of the Citv of Washington, says: "'In these days of "city" building, one is almost lost in tbe mist created by the speculators, jobbers, bulls and bears, in their hunt after "spread eagles," but it is our good fortune at this time to record tho fact that in this city the proprietors have eschewed all speculators, and are offering to bona fide residents inducements which makes it decidedly to their advantage to settle there, in preference to any other point in the interior. It is situated on the north side of the Kansas liver, within a few miles of St. Mary's Mission, and comprises three hundred and twenty acres the lots arc forty feet front, by one hundred and thirty-two deep AND ONLY ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SHARES IN THE WHOLE TOWN.

The railroad from this citv is now in such GRAT NATIONAL ROUTE. To Washington City, Haltiiuore, l'liiludelpliiu, IV. York and Uos-ton. THE SHORTEST AND MOST DIRECT ROUTE FROM ALL POINTS SOUTH AND WEST, TO THE EAST, is by the BALTIMORE AND OHIO RAILROAD, Terminating on the West at Wheeling. Connecting also at the Station in Baltimore, with the Railroads to PHILADELPHIA, NEW YORK and BOSTON, being tho only route by which merchants and travellers can purchase Tickets that will enable them to visit tho cities of Baltimore, Philadelihia and New York, at the cost of a Tickett to New York by other lines, an advantage that ia afforded by this route onlv.

A DOUBLE TELEGRAPH LINE regulates the running of all trains, rendering delays and collisions impossible. The best accommodations are afforded to travellers by this route, in the regularity and closeness of the several connections on the line, by which good lime, comfort and economy are insured. The loading points touched by this line arc Vincenes, Alton, Terra Haute, Indianapolis, Dayton, Xenia, Cincinnati, Columbus, Zanes-ville and Bellaire. At Bellaire, (on the Ohio river,) four miles below Wheeling, travellers are transferred across to Benwood Station, where they take the cars of the Baltimore and Ohio road, which start from Wheeling three times daily, direct for Cumberland, Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia and New York. The scenery between tha Ohio river and Baltimore is magnificent and sublime, and is not equalled in the world.
