Last week we mentioned the big "gusher" in Sycamore township a few miles west of Cherryvale, but so far we have failed to mention other wells found in ovr midst the past few days. Has It All Settled. Numerous newspaper items recently have announced that the independent cracker factory at Independence has won in a fight with the cracker trust and has driven the trust from the field. We don't believe a word of it. The trust has withdrawn its branch at Independence it is true but there is nothing to indicate that the home factory has won. In fact there is everything to show that it has joined the trusts in some kind of an agreement as to a schedule of prices.

When the trust first opened its branch at Independence prices on crackers dropped to a very low point but of late they have been gradually raising, the prices all the time being made without regard to the price of flour, until now anil for some time they have been back to about where they started. The trust branch has gradually ceased its fight on the local factory and has finally withdrawn. People who have been sympathizing with the Independence cracker factory will now feci like kicking themselves. all over the country, but this is nothing compared to the way we "strike" terror to competition when they hear of tne extremely low prices at which the Condon Mercantile Co. is selling goods.

We positively will not be undersold. At the Osawatomie insane asylum the other night, one H. Goertzen, a former citizen of Coffeyville, hanged himself with his bed clothing. This was the simple story sent out from the institution, but it might be enlarged into a tale of heroism. Four years ago a runaway horse dashed down the principal street of Coffeyville dragging a carriage in which sat Mrs.

J. R. Mitchell and her baby. MrGoerlzen dashed out of his bakery, threw himself in front of the horse, and though dragged and hammered in a cruel fashion, held on to the reins until the horse stopped, and the woman and cLild were saved. But he never recovered from his injuries, and they sent him to the insane asylum and death by his own hand.
