30; Olathe, Nov. 2, Afternoon and Evening. Slate Journal United States Senator John Martin has thrown his Democracy overboard for the remainder of the campaign if Iuh own words mean anything. Senator Martin has, it is said, since last Sunday, written no lest? than sixty-nine letters a day to the Democratic postmaster of Kansas, asking them to lend their support to the election of the Populist candidates for the legislature. In addition to this Senator Martin has given out a lengthy interview stating his views on the political situation which the politicians of all parties interpret to mean that Senator Martin will aid in the election of Governor Lewelling and the Populist state ticket.

In this interview Senator Martin -ays: "I am 00 years old and so i Governor Glick, and we are old enough, at least we suppose we are, to know our own business. We know enough to be sure, that if we thought our left hand knew what our right was doing we would cut it off. "I want it understood that I am a Democrat, and as good as any Democrat that lives, but I have the right to raise questions of policy in my own mind, and discuss them. "What I may do hereafter in this campaign will be goverened largely by circumstances. The convention which nominated the Democratic ticket was composed of Democrats of undoubted loyalty to the party, who believed they were doing the right thing when they put up a ticket before the people.

Its candidates are all Democrats whom we all respect and esteem as such. It is not a question of loyalty to party but of policy, which some Democrats are discussing in this campaign. "It is possible that the present Democratic campaign may in effect be of more advantage to our old enemy, the Republican party, than to our own. "The question is, do we want the Republican ticket elected in lhn campaign This is the material question we, as Democrats, have the right not only to consider but to discuss. "I believe the Republican party will lose in this fight.

I did not think so ten days ago, but since that time a great change has taken place in the minds of the people, and the Republican leaders themselves are responsible for it. "The American citizen is a great admirer of fair play, and he abhors villiffjation, abuse and scandal in politics as in any other controversy. "The Republicans have summoned to their aid in this campaign notorious gamblers, liars and pariahs. Thty have called upon such vagabonds, slanderers and liars as Pete Kline and Nels Acers to testify that Governor Levelling Light Breaking.
