The Rev. Mr. Betts, of the Central M. E. church brought the series of special meetings to a close last Sunday evening.

These meettngs have been held for the last five weeks, and have been very beneficial to the community. Ladies, Aid Society, of the Central M. E. ccurch gave a quilting party at the church one day last week. At the close of the afternoon's work.

The ladies repaired to the home of Mrs. David Wentling, where aj hearty dinner was served. The Intermediate Society, of the Central Christian church held a social and carpet contest at the home of Mrs. H. M.

Duckett, 615 S. Eighth street. The carpet was awarded to the one who collected moat money for the society. Mrs. Duckett was the successful contestant, having collected about $20.

The Salvation Army will serye free dinners to the poor at their hall on Osage avenue, Christmas day. All those who are unable to provide dinner for themselves on that day will be heartily welcome. The Army is besieged daily with applications for food and clothing, and any donations of the kind would be gladly recieved by them at their hall. The Sunday schools of the different churches in Armourdale will give their usual entertainments on Christmas eve. At the Presbyterian church a beautiful cantata, entitled "The stars," will be rendered at the close of which the gifts from two heavily laden trees will be distributed to the scholars.

Frank Maxon has been enjoying a visit from his parents, whose home is in Independance, Kan. A cantata will be rendered by the scholars of the Baptist Sunday school, at their entertainment on Christmas eve. The American Club gave a dance at the Metropolitan Hall this week, which 'was largely attended by the members. The Ladies' Aid Society, of the First Presbyterian church gave an oyster supper and social, at the home of Mrs. French, on Spear avenue.

The social was largely attended and was quite a financial success. The Rev. E. Meredith, state secretary, occupied the pulpit of the First Baptist church last Sunday morning. In the evening the pastor preached his fourth in the series of sermons on The seven benedictions of the apo-calpcse.

The Rev. J. R. Adams, of the Congregational church, has been obliged to resign his charge, owing to sickness in his family. He will make his home in Colorado for the present.

The members of the chnrch evpect to be able to supply the pulpit regularly. The popular firm of Green and Conner, corner First and Silver streets, are adding a line of groceries to their already extensive meat business. They will be prepared to meet all competion and deserve liberal patronage for their enterprise. The pupils of the publio schools in the eighth grade, gave a very high class entertainment, Wednesnay evening to a large and appreciative audience. The literary and musical selections were rendered in a masterly manner, and the ribbon drill exercises were especially effective.
