Myers was very pleasantly surprised at his home last Friday evening by about 30 friends of the First Baptist church Sunday school and congregation, it being his 64th birthday. The evening was very pleasantly spent in games and other amusements.

Refreshments were served and, after presenting him with aneasy chair they bade him good night wishing him mauy happy returns of the day. We have in prospect an engagement of the celebrated Schubert Lady Quartette Company, and it is expected that they will be secured to give one of their delightful entertainments about April 13th. This company gives a program of the greatest variety, consisting of Lady Quartettes, Mandolin and Guitar Club, String, "Violin and Vocal Solos, Amusing Readings, and a feature of the program that creates astonishment every place is the songs, violin solos and recitations by Master Tommy Purcell, a child of eight years. In the Schuberts we will get a musical entertainment that is enjoyable from first to last not a long dull classical affair but a bright, ipterest-ing program of music's choicest gems. 2:52 10:03 a ui 2:18 C.

The Episcopal people are preparing to raise funds with which to build an FRIDAY, MARCH 18TIL The jury in the Goodrich vs. Santa Fe case returned verdict in favor of the plaintiff for $349.50 and $150 attorney fees. A uumber of motions have been made by the defendant among them one for a new trial all of which were overruled. The jury in Case vs. Stone returned a verdict for defendant.

Jason Ham at the last term of court sued the Chicago, Rock Island Pacific Railway for the value of a steer lost in transit. The jury found for the plaintiff. A new trial was granted and the case was tried last Friday resulting in another verdict for the plaintiff in the sum of $43. C. F.

Ayres shipped a car of stock from Whitewater to Kansas City over the Rock Island road last summer. There is a law placed on the statutes at the last session of the legislature which provides that a shipper of a carload of stock shall receive transportation both ways. On his return trip he was ejected from the train at Topeka. He brought suit for damages and the jury awarded him $50. Chas.

Brittenstein worked in A. J. Lesh's drugstore and there was some difference in the settlement. Britten-sfcein brought suit and the jury returned a verdict in his favor for $299.79. MONDAY, 3IARCII 21.

The case of Meyers vs. Lesh was also tried at last term of court and a new trial granted. The defendant moved for a continuance which was granted. This closed the jury cases and the jury was discharged for the term. N.

A. Yeager has been" acting as receiver- for the Bank of Augusta which closed its doors Sept. 1st 1893. It is claimed that by law he is disqualified to act and he resigned. The court appointed T.

Sexton receiver, fixing the bond at $7,000. A. J. Palmer was appointed receiver in the case Russell vs. Whitmore.

Bond $150. N. F. Frazier was appointed receiver in the case Irrigation Loan Trust C. vs.

Bond $100. The following sales were confirmed: In Peabody vs. Williams: Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. vs. Duffy.

Motion for new trial in McKinney vs. Warner "overruled. There seems to be a difference of opinion regarding fruit prospects-Some think the freeze has killed all of the swollen buds while others say there will be enough to escape that will give us a better crop than if the freeze had not come. One man said it was in the. dark of the moon and addition to their church on Main street.
