IEVEREtX. We made brief mention in our last issue of a case of domestic infelicity in Boston, which had caused intense excitement in that city of moral ideas. A correspondent of the New York World gives the full particulars of the case, and it is certainly a most remarkable one. We lay before our readers a brief history of theaflair, stripped of all superfluous generalities. Mrs.

Phoelie H. Phelps is the wife of Hon. Chas. A. Phelps, formerly a practicing physician, Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1S56-7, and now a pension agent in Boston.

Mrs. Phelps is about fifty-two years old, a lady of fine native ability, of unusual mental and social culture, and of high moral and religious principles. Her connections by blood and friendship are most honorable. She is a sister of Hon. Ira Harris, of Albany, N.

Phelps was placed under treatment at the McCleau Insane Asylum, at Somer-ville, where she remained from April, 1860, to September, 1861. For the past few years Mrs. Phelps has been living quite secluded in Grantville, a village about twelve miles from Boston, in a house belonging to Mr. Phelps. She has enjoyed some comfort, and at intervals received calls from some of the family.

This lull in the family circle was finally broken in 1869, by an application, made by her eldest son, Chas. H. Pheljis, an attorney in New York city, for a decree to send his mother to some one of the State lunatic aiylums, as being an insane person. This petition was, doubtless, instigated by the husband. The case was heard before Judge White, who decided on the 3d of last August that Mrs.

Phelp9 was not a proper subject for confinement in an insane hospital. Thus baffled and exasperated by the failure of his well-laid plans, Dr. Phelps immediately after the unfavorable decision, began to strip the house occupied by his wife of its furniture. This naturally excited and provoked the injured lady and she strenuously resisted the encroachment on her rights. After the last article of furniture had been earried away, she refused to accompany the the advice of friends, Mrs.
