Intense religious interest is being manifested by the most abandoned sinners, even the editors and lawyers crowding into the house of worship. A farmer, whose boy is clerking in a store at Neodesha, wrote and asked'the merchant if there was anything in his son. "Yes" replied the merchant, "just after he has been to a saloon." Earnest religious revivals are being held all over the country. In one town in Kansas every one in the place has been converted. People are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

"Don't burn the prairies," says the Winlield Courier, and proceeds to argue that it causes drouth, and that, as the present outlook is so bright, it is well to be very careful. Tuesday. February 15, the only daughters, Eva and Lucy, of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Evans, of Osage township, Labette county, were united in marriage by Rev. Hogan, of Mound Valley, to William Riney and G.

W. Helms, both of Labette county. Miss Eva becoming Mrs. Riney and Miss Lucy Mrs. Helms.

The ceremony took place at the residence of Mr. Evans, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. The happy couples went to Independence Tuesday evening, and returned to William Riney's father's house Wednesday, where a sumptuous feast was served, and joy reigned supreme. Joy be jvith you, says the Globe. The festival at the M.

E. church next Wednesday evening, will be one of the most interesting church affairs ever gotten up in Clierryvale. The supper will be luscious, the oyters fresh, and the mountains of cake and tweet meats delicious. The carpet ball feature ot the occasion will be novel and interesting. Every lady will prepare a ball, placing her name inside of it.

The carpet balls will be sold to the gentlemen, and they will have the honer of taking the lady to supper whose name is found inside of the ball. Almost every property holder in our city leels like sitting down on a store box and cursing his "front sight," but it won't pay. Of course the "hind sight" shows the thing up in its true light, but who wants the privilege of looking into futurity, when such a view would show up in all its cold and clammy ghastliness the inevitabl grave that lies across every numan being's pathway. Be satisfied with the "hind sight" and profit by the experience you get and you will be happy. A young lady at Holton, this State, laced too tight, ate a very hearty supper, and went to a dance.

She had not "tripped the light fantastic toe" long before she fainted, fell to the floor, and was immediately taken with spasms, and for a long time her life was despaired of. The moral for young ladies to draw from this touching incident it, don't lace, don't dance, and above all, don'i eat. Lewis Salter, son of Hon. J. Salter, of Independence, has purchased an interest in Carson implement business in this city, and is building a handiotne residence in the southeast part of the city.

We welcome Mr. Salter to our thriving railroad center, and wish him the best of success. County Attorney Van Gundy came over last Saturday evening and remained over Sunday in the city of the county. Van has hosts of friends here, and really ought to make his trips to this part of the county more numerous. He paid the Globk a visit Monday morning, snd left us jollier by 20 per cent.

Near Kingston, Labette county, Feb. 8, Leroy Reed shot two men, father and son, by the name of Christmore. Reed then took poison, from the effect of which he died. Anonymous letters, jealousy and a quick temper is the cause of the tragedy. There is nothing that so completely takes the starch out of a young man who has been married about a year as to have to go to a store where there is a young lady clerk that he used to keep company with, and inquire for those large size safety pins.

The future business center of Cherry-vale will be shaped this summer. Heavy property owners will have it in their bands in a great measure. Be wise in your acts and you will have nothing to regret. New York girls imitate Bernhardt by going about with their mouths half open, making themselves look as if they had just encountered a ghost or a gorrilla. Judge Talcott, of Iola, was weather bound in our city over Sunday. Wonder what that little round black, thin was that Beaver saw on the floor? For tchool books, stationery and wall paper, go to Richart McDonald's. About all the saloon men of Galena have been arrested tor selling liquor on Sunday. Every dollar you own is your servant. Invest it in city property and make it labor for its master.

In the Jim Cole case attachments for several of the witnesses had to be issued. Why. was this thusly? A man near Wichita sends nine of his children to a private school and instructs the other nine at home. The editor of the Stafford county Herald has been flogged by the postmaster, at Milwaukee, in that county. During the muddy period just before the last freeze up, our bus driver came out with four-in-hand.

The outfit was quite metropolitan in appearance. The Friday and Saturday blizzard lost its grip sometime during Sunday night, and all day Sunday old Sol was on deck furnishing sunshine for the godly and ungodly alike. --Frank D. Wyman, of the new meat firm ot Wyman Leckey, is building a neat residence on est Main street. It wiil be finished in a few days if the weather is favorable.

The City Council now have one cf the finest rooms in the city to hold meltings in, and it costs 9hly $48 per annum, light and fuel furnished, at that. The room is over S. M. Pearson store. Clierryvale can now boast of a very handsome omnibus.

This is something our city has long needed, and the enterprise will doubtless net the owners thereof, Messrs. Clotfelter Booth, a good revenue. The new salt works in the eastern portion of Saline county will cover an area of about 12 acres when completed. There are to be 34 vats 10 feet wide and 300 feet long, besides one large vat 200 feet square. The little narrow gauge road did nobly during the hist storm.

Trains on that road are as regular as clock ork. An ordinary Kansas blizzard has no effect on the little calico line. She's a yard wide and full of power and vinegar. "Buy and sell and get gain. Don't hold business lots until you nave driven enterprising men of means on to some other owners premises to enrich them, and thus force you to gnaw the file of regret forever afterward.

Leavenworth has an "I am married" club. We do not know the object of this club, unless they wish they were not, and are trying to devise some way to get out of it. No use, if you were fool enough to get there you will have to stand it. John Brown's sotil will march on forever in liberty-loving Kansas, and the Legislature will likely take action to see that his statue is placed in the old hail of the. The hogs at the Topeka distillery got into some whisky the other day and indulged too freely in the exhilarating beverage. A charter has been obtained and a company formed for the purpose of developing the Arkansas City water power. The city has voted $20,000 of the stock, and 30,000 has been pledged by the citizens, which is all the capital necessary to complete the project. The editor of the Sterling Gazette has been burning hay.

He says: "Yesterday we consumed about 100 pounds of bay, the cost of which is 10 cents. To keep our office, which is 22x33 feet, warm with coal wouid have cost 30 cents on the same day. A company has been organized in Wichita for the purpose of going down into New Mexico and engaging in the mining interests. A large number have already declared their intention ot going along with the company, which will be in about two weeks. Adam Bowman was arrested on last Saturday for keeping a gambling house, and was brought before the police judge for trial.

E. D. Hastings was prosecuting attorney, and J. D. llinkle appeared for the defendant.

Mr. Bowman was found not guilty and set at liberty. The revival of our winter put a veto, on all building. Several business blocks and residences were under way, and will be completeted as soon as that kussed "hog" gets through with his ice-bound, enow-flaked, blizzard-lined, beastly business. Some say that money out on' good security at 10 per cent, beats all corner lot speculations in the long run.

Well, that depends on the amount out and the location of the corner lot. Hazardous risks, as a matter of course, are not to be compared to long time loans at 10 per cent per annum.
