Pittsburg has become noted as a convention city; several Grand Lodge gathering have met here in the past, and others are fixed for coming this year, but none are of greater importance, or will bring more active energetic men of of the state to our city, than the organization that will be in session here this week. The Knights of Pythias is rapidly becoming the favorite and the most attractive to the unnitiated in gatherings of this kind. In addition to the Grand Lodge representatives of about 300, which comprise the Grand Lodge proper, the Uniform Bank, the higher or uniformed branch of the order always assembles at the same time and with their bright and tasty uniforms, their parades and competitive drills, create an interest that is not excelled by any civic society in existence. Pittsburg is to be congratulated on securing a session of this grand body, which of late years can only be entertained in the larger cities of the state, so great is the attendance at these annual gatherings of the order. From present indications the number of Knights and Sir Knights that will be in Pittsburg this week will not be less than fifteen hundred.

The Sunday Mornino Mail for itself and on behalf of all our people bids them a hearty and chivalous welcome to Pittsburg. Our houses may not be as palatial and our convenances for their entertainment may not be as great as other places they have visited, but our hospality is unbounded, and our welcome as sincere as the tenmantsof the order teach. His friends summoned help, and it took five men to lift the large piece of slate off of him.

They found him unconscious and seriously injured. The only thing that saved him from being crushed to death was a pile of slack that a miner had piled up in the room, and Ledbetter fell with his head in the slack. His body being lowerf the heavy weight crushed his head in the pile of slack, which caught part of the weight. He was carried out of the mine and taken into the engine bonse, where ne remained for about an half hour, when he was brought to his home in the south part of the city still in an unconscious condition. Five of the miners accompanied him home.
