D. 1863. 146 Lake Street, Chicago, H. O. STONE, WEE3M SUMMARY, We are necessarily compelled to condense our news into a very email space this week owing to the pressure of other matter upon our columns.

Vlcksburg still holds ont egainst the attack of Gen. Grant. He has made three charges and been repulsed with great loss, but still invests the city and feels confident of final success. Gen. Grant, it seems, has determined not to sacrifice his men b7 any more attemp's at storming the enemy's works, bat will proceed by regular approaches.

lie has captured between 4 000 and 5,000 prisoners and a large number cf guns. Johnson is still collecting forces to attack him in the rear, but Grant feels confident of being able to defeat any soch attack. Some of the rebel forts were captured and again re-taken by the enemy. The fighting grows more desperate each day. In some instances Federal and rebel soldiers lie in ditches not more than twenty-five feet apart, each being afraid to show their heads above their works for fear of being shot by the other side.

The rebel army in Vicksburg is reported short of water as all communication with the Mississippi and Yazoo rivers has been cat off. Kentucky and Tennessee. The rebels in front ef P.osecrans are making some demonstrations, it is thought to cover a movement to support Pember-ton at Yicksburer. Army of the Potomac. is preparing for some move, but Hooker has not been able to ascertain in what direction.

It is thought another raid into Maryland and Pennsylvania is contemplated. Mosby's guerrillas attacked our trains et Catletts station Saturday which they captured and burned. Col. Mann of the 7th Michigan went in pursuit of the rebels, came np with and routed them. A dispatch to the New York Herald says that warm work may be expected in Virginia soon.

Missouri. Everything is comparatively quiet in this department. We hear occasionally of guerrilla skirmishing, but iince our last nothing of great importance has come to us. Last week a party of guerrillas dashed into Plattsbarg, robbed the Ceunty Treasurer's office of about $14,000, destroyed the office of the American, published by W. J.

Marion, formerly editor of the Atchison Union, in this State, and committed other depredations. They hare not since been seen or heard of. The Mississippi Marine Brigade had a fight with guerrillas thirty-five miles above Helena, Arkansas, on the 24th in which Maj. Hubbard's battalion was nearly captured but being reinforce I thsy routed -he rebels nnd burned the town of Austin in Mississippi. Fotith Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

den. Hunter has been removed from the Department of the South. Gen. Gil-more succeeds Lira. Two blockade runners, in attempting to run the blockade at Charleston, one on the 20th and the other on the 23d, were fired upon and sunk.

Mexico. At last the Frer.ch have succeeded in capturing the city of Puetla. It ws-s carried by storm on rlie 17th, when the Mexicans f-urrendf red wncor.ditionaUv. The prisoners included Gen. Ortego, 23 other General, 900 minor officers and 17,000 men.

On the 20r.h a division of the French army started for the city of Mexico. Our summary of news btins unavoidably brief, we will, next week, give some '0 pirticnlr.rs of the fight "at Vicksburg. Mining Ivfews. Capital, we arc gla'l to learn, is finding its way to Colorado, ami is beinjj syi'aly in mining' operations Love.
