W. PETTIT THE JEWELER PIPER. the precipice above. He signals that Bella is to be captured and Dick is to be killed. One of the men on the raft tries it just a3 Dick is clambering aboard.

Dick upsets him into the water and the second man and Dick have a terrific fight on the raft. Bella, who has been dragged aboard and is rapidly recovering, tries to aid Dick. After vanquishing the lumberjacks and leaving. them to their fate in the lake, Dick takes the launch and heads down stream toward the sawmill. Bullhead and his gang ride to intercept them.

At the sawmill Dick and Bella board a marine engine with its lumber cars and at the point of a pistol Dick makes the engineer start the train just in time to avoid Bullhead. The gang pursue and drive their horses alongside the flat car of the train. At a great risk Bullhead and two others of the gang board the moving train from horseback. They are engaged in a pistol duel with Dick and are finally frustrated when Dick, daring death, uncouples the car from the engine and they are left behind. Meanwhile some of the gang have chopped down a big tree and dropped it in the path of the onrushing lumber train.

The train is stopped to avert a crash and Dick and Bella The gang are prevented from following by Dick's revolver as he covers them through the trap door. They concoct evil scheme and leave the storehouse, going to the top of the cliff above the house. Boulders are dropped on the roof. The couple are about to be crushed by the heavy rocks which come through the roof when Dick discovers a trolley cable from the house to the valley below that had been used to send supplies down into camp. Holding to the hook of the trolley they are carried down into the valley out of the danger threatening them.

At the other end of the wire more of the gang are waiting for them. Seeing this new danger threatening them, Dick and Bella take a great chance and drop into a lumber flume where the wires crosses it. They manage to scramble aboard some logs being borne down the flume and drift out of sight of the gang. Bullhead heads them off by a short cut at a point where the flume spans a sort of a gorge', the gang chops down the supports of the flume, causing it to collapse. They hide themselyves and lay in wait for Dick and Bella to arrive at the spot.

Not until they are on top of the break in the flume do the daring couple realize their danger and they are rushed toward it to be killed or crushed by the fall and the logs.
