Mr. Wigston has done an excellent ob on the brick work, and Mr. Giblon will not be a bit behind him with the finishing. They are honest, competent workmen.

Mr. Jas. L. Ward, residing on Long creek, has forty-two acres of wheat in Jthat has made a splendid growth. He ha9 put up 100 tons of hay for feed, and this work he accomplished with but very little help.

Mr. Ward is a generous, farmer, and deserves to succeed. H. L. Jarboe is receiving an immense stock of dry goods, boots, shoes and notions, for the fall and winter trade, which he is offering at very low figures.

He bought at the lowest cash prices, and is able to sell accordingly. Call in at the stone store and examine lor yourselves. John P. Chess, Chief Marshal of the fair, was certainly the right man in the right place. Too much cannot be said in his praise, but, to sum it all up in as short a space as possible, we will jtlst say that while he enforced a due observance of the rules, no man asked him a civil question without receiving a civil answer.

Woodson County Post. A new postoffice has been established in this county, on the Eureka route, about half way between this city and Lena Valley postoffice, Greenwood county. This will accommodate a good many people in that part of the county. Mr. Jesse Klock has been appointed postmaster.

Barry Is the name of the new office. The Seneca cheese factory has shipped 503 cheeses the past month all of them first-class. It has been a mystery to us lor years that Coffey county has had no institution of this kind. It is time now for our fanners to commence organizing for next summer, and we hope to see something done in the matter. It will pay big.

We have in Burlington a lot of the most pleasant, accommodating merchants and traders to le found in the SUte, and they are selling goods so very low that it is no wonder that Burlington is a lively town. To the people of the adjoining counties, we say come to Burlington if you want to get a large amount of goods for a little money. Hoes intended for fattening should be pushed now. A pound of corn now will lay on more fat than a pound and a half in cold weather. Besides, early pork pays better, usually, than that made in the winter.

The butcher wants light pigs, and will pay fairly lor them. Give the swine plenty of water and shade, but not much range. Mr. Isaac California township, has sold his farm to Mr. Francis Bro-gan, of I)e Witt, Clinton county, Iowa.

B. Sheaf-or are each happy. Both boys. The State association of the Baptists will meet in Junction City on the 20th. The Voice of the People is the best advertising medium in Coffey county.

Try them. We learn that J. C. Coppock, who has been lying very low with fever, is some better. Dr.

Douglas, who has been "under the weather" for several days, Is again on the streets. Gkns. Grant and Sherman passed up the K. A T. yesterday morning, on a social triin.

Mrs. Jas.White's funeral will be preached at the M. E. church Sabbath morning, October 23. Liberal Grange, on Otter creek, had a harvest feast last Saturday night.

A good time was had. The city lias laid a substantial crosswalk between the court house and school house. It was needed. We notice that the fall wheat is growing rapidly, and presents a much better appearance than it did last year this time. J.

G. Otis, State agent of the Patrons, made us a pleasant call Saturday. He was here in consultation with the county council. A large delegation of Pottawatomies, bound for their new homes in the Indian Territory, passed through town last Thursday. The Evening Standard, Lawrence, has enlarged and Improved, and shows evidence of prosperity.

We are glad to note friend Shea's success. The air is full of matrimonial rumors. Considerable property is changing hands, and residences are being renovated to receive the brides. The Eureaka Herald demands payment in advance for all political printing, without regard to "age, sex or previous condition of Read the notice'of Reform meetings, at the head of our local columns. Sargeant does not intend to desert Kansas, but will go East to rusticate awhile. Shipping produce to Texas is getting to be an important branch of our trade. The wide-awake firm of Sanders Hoffmans are among our heaviest dealers in this line. In a day or two they will ship 1,200 pounds of Al butter to one firm in Houston, receiving cash at highest rates. They are paying cash for all kinds of country produce, and arc selling groceries as low as the lowest.

On Friday night last we enjoyed the kind hospitalities of Mr. D. L. Wingard, of Strawn. Mr.

Wingard, in company with Mr. Newkirk, the station agent, keeps a general store; also a boarding house. He is gentlemanly and accommodating, and gives his boarders most excellent fare. Mr. Newkirk is a pleasant, agreeable gentleman, and reports that the shipments at the station are getting larger and increasing from month to month.

We also made the acquaintance of Mr. Benedict, who has a general store, and is the postmaster at Strawn.
