1). C. Jan. 2nd, 1879. The advent of the New Year was celebrat ed gloriously yesterday.

The day was all that could have been wished for, bright, warm, and cheerful. The receptions at the White House, at the British inister's and at the Cabinet officers' houses were more numerously attended than usual, and the day passed off with very little to mar the universal With all this joyousness in the social world it is a pity that the new year must be ushered in through a dark cloud in the political sky. That cloud in Maine may not now appear larger than a man s. hand, but it portents trouble of a very serious nature. The infamous authorities there have aggre- Geo.

At no very distant day Wyandott, Kansas Citj, Kansas. Armstrong. Riverview and Rosedale will be united and form one corporation. That a consolidation of these place in one corporation, under one mime, couldbe a mutual benefit to all of them there can no doubt. The interests of alt are identical, and whatever inures to the bene tic ofonaof them benefits till the others.

If united, each would feel a community of interest that does not exist now, and could work for one common end, viz: The building of a great city at the mouth of the Kaw. The division into seperate municipalities has a tendency to weaken the efforts of nil in the upbuilding of the great city that is ultimately to become the Queen of the Mississippi Valley and the great commercial center of the New Wist.
