WASHiNOTON.Crrr, April -rThe March debt statement shows a reduction in the public debt for the month of less than and for the nine months of against over $14,000,000 and nearly for the two corresponding periods of last year. This large disparity between tbe reductjou in March, 1884, and the month just closed is due to the fact that there was a falling oil of, $2,000,000 ia the aggregate receipt of Last month compared with March, 18S4, and an increase of 12,700,000 in the expenditure of which Increase were for pensions and $3,000,000 in the ordinary expenditures. The aggregate of pensions, however, for the niue months is no greater than for the corresponding nine months of last year.

It so happened that over were paid for pensions last mouth and only 18,000 in March, 184. The available cash is ngwr 133,818,000, which is the largest balance held by tha treasury since October, 1831 The exct decrease in the debt according to the old-style statement is 483,000. The gold fund is against which there are outstanding in certificates $115,637,540, making the net gold in the treasury $125,773,250, a loss of $1,573,000 for the month. The silver dollars on hand now number 158,093,43, an increase of nearly 3,000,000 since March against this there are outstanding in certificates an increasa of over $2,000,000 during the month. The silver in the treaiury not covered by Certificates is over a net increase of $1,000,000 since March 1 and of nearly $35,000,000 since April lf84.

The receipts for the month were against in March, 1884, and the expenditures were $24,844,000 last month, against for the corresponding month of lit year.
