There have been different theories advanced as to where the blame should be fixed for the terrible Chatsworth railroad disaster, but the proof of Diame one direction aoes not necessarily exclude the responsibilities of ainerent parties, mere were, undoubtedly, fiends in human form who pillaged ana roooea tne aymg ana the dead. These inhuman monsters should be hunted down and punished to the full extent of the law. If Tim othy Coughlln, the section boss, knew tnat tne grass near tne Driage naa been fired only a few hours before the train passed, and did not make sure tnat tne nre was extinguisneu, men he and all associated with him in the responsibility should be held criminally guilty. But the guilt of all these parties does not relieve tne railroad company from responsiblity.

It is now almost certain that it was well known that the railroad itself and the bridge were not in a condition in which It would be safe to run over them a heavy train at full speed yet the doomed train of seventeen cars was not divided, as was suggested by an engineer. Two engines were attached to the train, and the train was running at the rate of thirty to forty-five miles an hour when the bridge was reached. If we make all the allowance possible, the fact remains that a desire to make a little more money, with as little expense as possible for watchmen and repairs, was cause enough for the accident, even though a band ot robbers naa airectiy started the fire. No punishment now of the guilty can ever call back from the graves the dear dead who were so pitilessly sacrificed but, for the sake of the living, there should be something more than temnorarv excite ment over this horror, which is a disgrace to this age of boasted scientific V. 4.

Porter has received the draw ings for the new dynamo plant, and will proceed at once and build the foundation for the reception of the machinery, which is now on the road. The skill of a leading architect of Sterling has been advertised for many weeks by means of a completed specimen of his handiwork in front of his workshop on Main street. The build ing is a shingle roof about 4 feet long by 3i feet wide, and 6 feet high. Nobody fails to see it. W.

H. Firth, of Kansas City, general passenger and ticket agent of the C. B. Q. railroad, is registered at the Trans-Continental hotel, and will make Sterling his headquarters for a few days, as he came out here on a hunting tour.
