Kelson is a pleasant gentleman, and we are sorry to see him leave us for former home. H. M. Shepherd made us a very pleas ant call last Saturday afternoon. Mr, Shepherd is traveling in the Interests of the Eureka Republican, and will be Iu this part ot the county again soon.

Mr, Shepherd Is a pleasant gentleman, and we are glad to welcome him to this part oi tne county, In nearly all parts oi the state we hear that good crops are expected. The farmers are generally in good spirits anu every Body seems to enjoy the pres ens prospect lor a profitable year for Kausas. The dry spell shortened th hay crop to ait alarming extent, and the eariy corn was injured to a certain degree, but the goneral feeling is that mere win be a very good crop even now, especially tr we have another good raiu In a few days. Those parts ol the state that had local rains two weeks ago are especially blest, and will have, as they Have uunng the several years previous to this time, large crops of every kind of grain, except wheat in places where the chinch bug has been. Kansas is not yet behind, even if she has a dry spell once in a while.

ine children's class organized at this place about two weeks ago, for the Christion training of the childred of the city is surely a thing that should be kept up, and an active luterest manifested. The object of the class as we understand it, is to give the children a taste for lit erature, aud the character of the litera ture cau be readily decided npon when the name of the class Is given in lull. A moral sentiment instilled into a child will not easily be destroyed and a prac tice of these moral aud christian acts in every day life will so fix theso principles of action iu the minds of the young that they cau scarcely be lead estray. even if taken far from these christian influences. We are glad that such an interest Is being taken, and hope they may be entirely successful with the im portant work before them.
