Medicine Lodge receives its new pastor with characteristic courtesy and confidence. A good future awaits them. Medicine Lodge Circuit has agreed to pay to pastor $425. Hazelton has recently been added and this now makes a good circuit. A Division has been made in the Freeport charge in which Freeport becomes a station and Danville and Zion receive I.

J. Leatherman as pastor. Argonia will pay its pastor $50 more than last year and liquidates its church debt. Weujngton Circuit. will pay $50 more than last year.

Wellington apportioned for pastor $1050 and house, an increase of $150. Daiton is likely to build, a church this year. Oxford Epworth League is hodling revival services each Sunday afternoon in the country. South Haven entertained the District Conference in a very hospitable manner. Among the visitors was Rev.

J. L. Hanna D. who preached two good sermons. The quarterly conference was held at the close of the session of the District Conference and resulted in placing the pastor's salary at $600 and a house.

Udau, shows the general spirit of optimism and agrees to pay its pastor more than it paid last year. Rock is moving along in the even tenor of its way taking about the same rack financially as in years past. New Salem agrees to pay this years $230 and say they will do it. Burden is much encouraged at the prospects of the coming year and will repair the parsonage property to make it a comfortable house. Latham is much pleased with their pastor and will see that he is supported.

The Epworth League at Brownlow on the Latham charge is one of the best in the district. Atlanta and its new pastor are mutually pleased with each other. A good year is expected and every prospect seems favorable. There are many splendid people in Atlanta but they tolerate a herd of the scrubyest, man-gyest, lousyest cattle in the shape of boys we have ever seen. They congregate at the depot, spit, smoke, use obscene language and perform obscene actions in the presence of passengers and so deport themselves as to disgrace their parents and insult a civilized community.

The good people of the town ought to herd them, pen them or reform them so that they would not dishonor the town in the eyes of every respectable traveler. Character. There is only one way to build true character and that is by holding steadily before the mind the image of the Christ life. He is the absolutely perfect character; he is the same unchanging being under all conditions. Temporary moods did not affect his purposes nor change his plans; and whether in the home of his parents or among the multitudes; whether surrounded by friends or enemies; whether in the triumphal march to Jerusalem or in Gethsemena, he was the same unchanging character, never for a moment faltering in his purposes.

If we would be like him, we must think upon him until we get the mental picture fixed in our minds. Then "we shall be like him for we shall see him as he is." District Conference At the last session of the District Conference held at South Haven, we gave more attention than usual to the business interests of the district. This is a year of opportunity for the payment of debts, making of new improvements and the raising of benevolences. The pastor who fails this year, unless some unforeseen or unusual circumstances occur, will never be a financial success. Now that God is blessing us financially we should "bring all the tithes into the storehouse of God and prove" Him and see "if He will not pour out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it." But while we find it an opportune time to raise money for the advancement of God's cause, it should not be forgotten that God demands special effort in saving men from sin.

Let us never forget that the great work of the church is salvation; everything else is but secondary. When you hear a man ascribing bad motives to others, he is generally judging them to be guilty of what he would do were he surrounded with their circumstances. Pastors should never go into the work of benevolences apologetically, but as an obligation upon all the people, with faith that it will be done. Give to the church from a sense of duty and gratitude to God, rather than the commercial method of ice creams, oyster stews and neck tie socials. The apportionment for benevolences is not a maximum but a minimum.

It represents an amount below which we dare not fall. The man who has gien his whole heart to God will not withhold his property from God while the cause of Christ suffers. Imaginary diseases can be cured by imaginary remedies. H. A.
