HLBER LRNE The Methodist Church spire and the belfry tower were almost completely wrecked by a bolt of lightning about 2 o'clock Wednesday morning.dnring the tierce electrical storm which prevailed during the early hours of the morning. The shaft struck the spire near the top and pmsi'd down the four corners, ripping oil the shingles and shattering the heavy timbers, passing into the four corner pillars of the belfry tower and knocking them out like toothpicks. No damage was done to the interior of the church. A peculiarity of the wreck of the bell tower is that on each of the four corners there are three wooden pillars, about oue foot apart, which support the spire, and only the center pillar on each was injured, and they were knocked completely off the building.

The damage is past repairing, and an entire new tower will have to be built. The residence of S. M. Winterburn in South Olathe was also struck about the same hour, and the roof badly torn up. the plastering being torn from the wall inside, and other small damage done.
