Pratt, Mayor of the city of Burlin game do hereby proclaim that on Monday, the 7th day of April, 1890, there will be an election held at the usual voting place in said city, for the purpose of electing the following city officers, to-wit: A Mayor, five Councllmen, and Police Judge, tald election shall be governed and the result declared according to the rules and regulations provided by law for holding elections In said city, lu witness thereof, I hare hereunto set my hand, this 6th day of March, 1890. Pratt, Mayor of the city of Burlingame, do hereby proclaim to the legal voters of said city that, on the Tth day of April, 1890, at the usual time ef holding the regular city emotion, there will be a special election at the usual voting place In said city, for the purpose of instructing the city council to Issue eight thousand dollars of bonds of tho city of Bur lingame, payable in fifteen years from the date of their Issue, with interest thereon at a rate not exceeding six per cent per annum, with Interest cupons attached, payable semi-annually, said bonds to be used for making Improvements of a general nature in tho city of Burlingame, said election shall be governed and tho result declared according to the rules and regulations provided by law for holding elections in said city. The vote of said election shall be by ballot, the tickets used having written or printed thereon the words, "For the bonds," or "Against the bonds," In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand the 6th day of March, 1890. Richards occurred Tuesday, at his residence four miles northwest of this city, in Pottawatomie county. For several weeks he had been afflicted with pleurisy which recently turned into pneumonia and resulted in his death. Mr. Richards was 50 years old, and had lived in this community for ten years. He belonged to a large and respec table family, consisting of several generations, was widely and favorably known, and Mb sudden death will be a great sur prise to his large circle of friends." The above is from the Manhattan Re public.

The deceased was a brother of J. P. Richards of this city. The funeral services were held Thursday of last week under the auspices of the masonic lodge of Manhattan of which he was a member. Take Notice, The Osage County Horticultural Society will hold its adjourned meeting at the residence of H.

There is Just one way in which they can prevent the votlug of bonds and that is to get a double geared move on themselves and raise the necessary amount of funds by private subscription between now and the 7th of April, otherwise the bonds will be voted and a mayor and council elected who will use the money as a majority of the people of the town desire them to use it. W. Mings visited relatives in Kansas City several days this week. A lot of ucw covered carriages were received at Filley Son's yesterday. Mr. Royco has leased the Grand Central and embarked in the hotel business.

T. W. Mings shipped a car load of slock to Kansas City Wednesday night. II. A.

Billings, of Marlon, an ex Probate Judge of Osage county is la tho city. Eskrldge suffered a $30,000 fire Saturday night. Insurance amounting to Jas. T. Pringle was attending Lyon county court at Emporia yesterday and to-day.

Geo. Stoors recolved 1388.40 insurance in payment for his loss by the fire two weeks ago." Judge Rambo has been quite sick for several weeks and is now in a very feeble condition. The Osage County Teacher's Association meets in the high school building in this city tomorrow. H. Witbcck is again in the Stock market; he shipped two cara of cattle and hogs to Kansas City Tuesday night. Mr. J. A Finch and two eldest sons started for Texas Wednesday night where Mr.

Finch expects to reside in the future. The members of the United Brethren church will hold their quarterly meeting in Grantier's Hall in this city Saturday and Sunday. Captain Stoddard, of Eureka, Kansas, was the guest of Capt. Drew the first of the week and a visitor at the militia company's drill Monday night. The store formerly occupied by the Burlingame Mercantile Company is being used by Filley Son as a store room for a car load of new buggies.

The case against Geo. Williams charged with having sold liquors to minors, haB been dismissed, the prosecution not seeming desirous to try the case a second time. L. A. Dutton drove over to Lyndon yesterday where he will remain for sev-erall days transacting business for H.

D. Shepard's branch implement house in that city. The Baptist church closes a four weeks series of revival meetings to-night. About twenty conversions were made a number of whom will unite with the church. The knitting factory directors have con cluded to suspend work at the factory for the present, owing to the depressed con dition of the market and the stringency of money matters.

Rev. A. W. Lawrence is enjoying a va cation and brief season of rest this week, visiting relatives in Crete, Nebraska. He will be absent over Sunday, returning sometime next week.

Mr. George J. Dorr, of Peterton and Miss Angola Godderz were united in marriage at the residence of Justice Chambers in this city Thursday afternoon, Justice Chambers officiating. D. C.

Kent leaves for Chicago the first of next week, for more new goods. The dry goods trade for March, thus far, Mr. Kent saya, is better than that of any pro ceeding year since he has been in Burlingame. We understand that a gad accident oc curred at Alma in the shaft yesterday morning, in which two men lost their lives through the giving way of some part of the hoisting apparatus. Our in formant did not know the full particulars.

Mr. A. E. Foshay, of Overbrook, called on us the last of the week and concluded he wanted the Democrat for about a year. Mr.

Foshay is a good democrat of the eastern part of the county and was a candidate against Heiberling two years ago for commissioner. Walter Oliver returned home a few days ago from the Salina university, where he has been taking a course in civil engineering. He will depart in a short time for the new state of Washington, where he will Join a surveying party that has been engaged to lay out the line of the Oregon Washington railroad The Kansas City Star company has commenced the publication of a weekly paper, the first number of which appeared last Thursday. The paper is full of well-selected news and literary matter, very little space being given to advertising. The weekly Star and Democrat will be sent to new subscribers for $1.65 per year.

We were the recipients of a very pleasant call Monday from Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Turner, of Manhattan, who were then on their way to Florence, their old home, to make a visit of a week.

Mr. Turner is mail agent on the M. A. B. branch, and one of the brightest, most efficient clerks in the service.

His route will be carried by a Mr. Bishop during his absensc. The Kansas M. E. Conference was held in Horton last week, Rev.
