A Card of Thanks. Ho! for the 4th of July. THE LIBERAL advertising is the short road to success. LIBERAL ADVERTISERS. JOHN WILLETT, HEADQUARTERS for gives the command, the child will see it; and that moment the child gets angry also; and his anger will be just as proper as the anger of the father; for anger exhibited in the bosom of the father begets anger in the child; and if he yields to the command or order at all, it will be because the father is the stronger, and not because he thinks his father is right.

He yields to power, but is not conquered, nor made better. How often by improper correction do the children feel they have been wronged! Many parents will not correct their children till under the influence of passion and then they will punish them with the first thing they get their hands on, to the injury of the child, and thus they lose control of the GROCERIES BOOTS, SHOES, HATS AND CAPS. Editor Libkkal: I see in vour pa per ot May loth, an article over the signature of George M. Kerr, to which wish to reply. Kerr says that the statements of Thomas Plymire in regard to himself are black, malicious falsehoods. Xow I will say right here that Plymire has written nothing but the truth in regard to Kerr, and also about the business of the district. Anything done outside of the district, I know nothing about, but I believe Mr.

Plymire can furnish proof to all if called on to do so. when Kerr accuses Plymire of making false state ments in regard to him, it strikes me a heavy blow, as 1 swore the warrant out for his arrest, and I will say to Kerr that I will furnish proof to this state ment, if he wishes. There is no per son that heard him challenged and the oath administered that can sav that Kerr did not swear false without ut tering a falsehoood themselves. David Wilson. A. W.Kudd. Communicated. What has become of our Severy Hotel and Improvement Company, char tered and organized last year We be lieve the time has come for something to be done in the way of a hotel that will be of sufficient capacity and credit to our young prospering city. The old officers should take hold of the matter and push things to an issue, or call a meeting and elect new ones, or do something, and not let the matter die a natural death.

We believe many took a lively interest last year in the matter, and could be induced to renewed exertion. Call a meeting and let us talk the matter over. We published, last week, a list of names of Severy's young gents, who desire to make matrimonial contracts. We are authorized to announce two other good-looking candidates for hymeneal honors; II. "But bring them up in the nurture" etc. The term here used means training, advising, leading. "And admonition of the Lord;" that is show them the consequences of disobeying. Speak plainly, but in affection. Do it "in the Lord," according to God's word.

We know that Solomon says that "foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;" but the rod of correction will drive it out of him. We think the rod of correction here named might, be used without using a literal yet we think that sometimes a switch can be used to advan tage, provided we exhibit proper con trol of ourselves. LTse it in love if you use it at all. "Bring them un in the nurture," etc. Do this by placing them under religious instruction.

But the sceptic objects to this, and says, "Don't teach children to be religious, as it robs them of the independence of mind. Let them grow to maturity and choose for themselves." But men do teach their children in other matters. They teach them how to make money, how to make and use tools, how to behave in company. These things are too important not to be looked after; but don't trouble the children about religion. But men do teach their children by.

example. The man who does not read the bible is teaching his child not to read it. The man who violates the sabbath-day is teaching his children to violate it. Those who stay away from sabbath-school and church are influencing their children to do the same. Children who are left thus alone would soon become wild, and would go to ruin, just as a garden where seeds are deposited, and then left without culture, would soon be overgrown with noxious eeds.

So children should be taught what is right, or others will teach them what is wrong. obituary. BY REV. T. AV.

TOODEOW. James P. Ililyard. son of James P. and America Ililyard, passed to the higher life on the 2Sth day of May, after a sickiuss of thirty-two days.

T.

W. WoodroAV, of Hutchinson. The services were attended by a large audience of sympathizing friends. Sympathy with the living and respect for the dead Avere greatly manifest in all that attended the service. James P.

ililyard Avas taught from childhood the blessed hope of Universalism, and embraced it with all his heart. His life and character were the embodiment of the faith, as it has been to an innumerable host before him. This blessed hope was the joy of his life and the consolation of his dying pillow. In his life and death Ave learn again the sublime truth that Universalism the doctrine of hope for all is good to live by and good to die by. By it alone Ave can afford to live and bear to die.

By it alone Ave can sing with the Psalmist, "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I Avill fear no evil; for thou art Avith me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they shall comfort me." The doctrine that consigns those Ave love to endless despair is not fit to live by nor to die by. To the soul Avherein reigns supreme, the hope of ry, but to the soul filled with the love and sympathy of Christ, no hone short of Universalism can satisfy the yearn ing nearc. nence ine conception of destiny that affords hope for all t.hf dead and dying is the only hone that satisfies the soul, that meets the wants of the human heart. Hone for the dead, for all the dead, is the necessary help tor the living. It is the gospel that is "glad tidings to all people that "heals the broken hearted." that 'comforts all that mouin." The op posite view or destiny is pad tidintrs to all people, and has broken tender hearts, and has increased the grief and tears ot mourning hearts; and there fore belongs not to the gospel of the grace ot God, "which comforteth us in our afflictions, and enables us to com fort those that are any trouble." The truth ot God is bread to the soul, and satisfies the soul as bread satisfies the body.

True bread is agreeable to the taste, and meets the natural want, and tnererore when a doctrine is presented which is disagreeable and distasteful. we should reiect it as raise; tor "why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for J- I i J1.
