The old settlers will hold a reunion and picnic in Perle Bennett's grove near Woodlawn next Thursday. Grover King came iu from Alton, Monday noon and visited until Tuesday evening with home folks.

Elza Clelland and wife expect to go to Colorado soon in hopes that the change of climate will improve Mrs. Clelland's health. Ernest Roots'and wife and Mr.Sinsi-baugh and family spent Sunday at the pleasant country home of I.M. Henderson and family. Miss Ida Johnson returned to her borne in Kansas City Saturday after a pleasant two weeks visit with her sis-; ter, Mrs.

II Fitzgerald. J. M. Swart and family and Mrs. Chandler returned Tuesday from Riley county where they had been attending the funeral of Martin Nanninga.

We forgot to mention last week that J. W. Wilson, principal of the Atchison County High School at Effingham, spent a couple of days here visiting his brother, F. B. Wilson.

The Misses Mary and Edna Adams from near Corning, were visitors at the home of D. H. Fitzgerald and wife Saturday. There will be an ice cream social in the Universalist church Saturday evening. Everyone is cordially invited to come out and have a good time.

She came here direct, from the old country and expects to make the Sunflower state her future home. A fellow in ono of our neighboring towns actually so far forgot his manhood one day last week as to curse a couple of defenseless women. After the justice of the peace got through with iiim he went his way a sadder but wiser man to the extent of 825. The thunder shower of Sunday morn ing was accompanied by sharp lightning. Commissioners Rucker and Stall-haumer were sitting in the clerk's office at the court house when a terrific crash rained them their chairs.
