11. 'H ii RENQLA Memorial and Decoration. Obituary. Commencement Week. Next week will be the last week of school and the Senior class are all busy preparing for graduation.

There are eleven members of the class this year as follows: Misses Ruby Man-ley, Maude ShafT, Hazel Cain, Edith Dickie, Laura Stockdale Pearle Reeves, Laura Haigler and Stella Crowther and Charles Cresswell, Claire Marshall, id Clate Marshall. Miss Mr Jey and Clair Marshall graduated with class last year, but took the normal work with this year's class. The Baccalaureate services will be held at the Methodist church next Sunday, May 19, commencing at 8. p. m.

Memorial and Decoration day will be observed this year in Gre nola as usual. The committees are working hard making arrangements for a fitting celebration of these days. 1 The Memorial services will ue Sunday, May 19th, at Aubu-chon's opera house commencing at 2 p. m. The sermon will be delivered by Rev.

E. G. Coons, pastor of the Methodist church. A nice program has been ar ranged for Decoration Day. Thursday, May 30th.

At the hour of 10 o'clock the procession will start to the cemetery, at which place Decoration will be observed according to the G. A. K. service. The afternoon program will be at the opera house, commencing at p.

m. Assembly call in front of opera house and splendid music by the Grenola band dur ing the gathering- oi the congregation. At 2:10 the program will be rended as fo'lows: Singing by Choir. Prayer. Singing by Choir.

Mrs. Elsie Murray and children of Halstead, Kansas, Mrs. Minnie Mann of Waldron, Arkansas and Paul Hunt of Portland Ore- gen, all children of Mayor Hunt have been in the city visiting with relatives and old friends. Mr. Hunt remained only one day but the two ladies will make a longer visit.

It contains pictures of the different classes and organizaj tions, the faculty and school house and many interesting write-ups. Payne of this city has an old violin made in Germany in 1647. Old violins are very valuable and thisone is made of the finest ebony ane is in perfect condition. Rev. H. W.

Todd, formerly of this city, will deliver the Baccalaureate adress to the Senior class at Thayer this year. Special Train leaves here at six for the Democratic Banquet at mm' a Am Mary A. Garvin was born in Iowa, October 2. 1853. She was married to bred Baxter March 1 st, 1870.

To them ten children were born, eight sons and two daughters, rive of the sons have died. Mrs. Baxter has been afflicted for several months, and died at her home one mile south of Grand Summit, Kansas May 10, 1912. She was aged fifty-eight years, seven months and eight days. The funeral was conducted at the family residence, Sunday, May 12, Rev.

E. Coons pastor of the E. Church of Grenola officiated and was assisted by Rev. C. J.

Dennison, of Winfield. The body was taken to White City, Kansas, for interment. Vaughn-Appleby Wedding. Mr. Willie H.

Vaughn and Miss Jewel Appleby of Grenola were married by Judge Bruner Tuesday afternoon in the parlor at the Bradford. Mr. Vaughn is a prosperous farmer of that vicinity while Miss Appleby is a very popular young lady and is one of Chautauqua county's' school teachers, having taught school near Leeds last winter. The best wishes of a hbstpf friends go with them for a long and happy married life. Sedan Times-Star.

Willie H. Vaughn of Grenola and Miss Jewell Appelby of Leeds were married at Sedan Tuesday. They were accom panied to Sedan by W. S. House and wife.

The bride and groom are higly respected in the com munity where they live and then many friends wish them a happy and prosperous life. They will live on Will's farm near Grenola. -Cedar Vale Commercial. Both of these people are well known to all in this vicinity and have the very best wishes of a large circle of friends. The new Hvmnals have arriv ed and will be a great help to tfie music. Remember the services for next Sabbath: Sunday school at ten a. m. At the regular preaching hour, 11 a. the pastor will deliver his report on the great State Sunday School coi vnticn which he attended at Hutchinson last week.

At 8 p. m. there will be a union service in honor of the graduat ing class of the Grenola High school. The Baccalaureate ser mon will be preached by the pas tor. You are always welcome to the services in this church.

EDGAR G. COONS, Pastor. E. E. Ames of Moline was in the city last Tuesday on business while here he announced that he would be a candidate for the Republican nomination for Representative of Elk county.

He has been a resident of this county for forty-one years and is a very successful man of Moline. Mr. Ames has many friends who will be glad to hear of his decision to enter the race. Mr. and Mrs.

Lewis Kyser of Howard came down last Saturday evening for a short visit with his mother, Mrs. Agnes Kyser and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Kyser has been in GRENOLA, ICanev Vallev nor. Invocation, Dr.

G. Coons Admission 15c. Alumni Officers. Alumni of the Grenola High school had a meeting last Friday evening and elected the following officers: President, Dea Hart. Vice-President, Virgil Poison.

Secretary, Roy Esbaugh. Treasurer, Chas. Stockdale. The Alumni will have a banquet this year for the graduating class and expect to have a fine time. May 7th was W.

C. Evans 70th birthday anniversay and in honor of event a large number of friends -remembered by sending him post card greetings. Mr. Evans celebrated the day by trimming the trees in his yard, climbing the highest and biggest with as much ease as a man fifty years younger, than he. Mr.

Evans' many friends wish him many more returns of the day and hope he will continue to be as active for many more years. Mr. and Mrs. J. C.

Logsdon of Fredonia arrived in the city last Saturday for a short visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Logsdon and her sister, Mrs.

Ed Eaglin and family other relatives and friends. Clifton is attending the Fredonia Business college and speaks highly in praise of the school. He will finish the work in a short time. Hal. M.

Shaw, who has been attending the Kansas City Colleee at Kansas City, Mis souri, the past winter, returned home last Monday morning for the summer.
