Hutchinson Captures the Other Conven tion on March 18. EXTIICM A8TIC MEETIM O. Of the State Central Commute Lnat Evening-. Report front over the dime Show that ibe People aire Awnke and Veiling Tired of Flaying Home. The Populist State Central com mittee met yesterday pursuant to call.

Every member of the committee was present, and many prominent populists from over the state were there to lend their assistence. The object was to fix the time and places for holding the conventions. Delegates were present from Abilene. Hutchinson Emporia and other points to urge the claims of their respective places foi the honor. The time was first considered and after discussion it was decided to hold the convention for electing delegates to the national convention at St.

Louis, on March 18, and the state convention for nominating state candidates, on August 5. Then came the chosing of the places for holding the conventions and the various delegations were in turn given a hearing. These delegations were not composed of any one political party, but republican and democrat vied with each other in singing the praise of his town. Abilene presented her claims first through C. S.

He argued as to the good to be accomplished by having the conven-at their city. "It would he said, "Hurtons candidate for representative from that county and assist taming dew the gold-bug Caldcrhcad." In conclusion he said: "Come to Abilene, and we will tic tie up the marshal, the mayor has gone away, the sheriff is a pop and the town is yours." G. C. Stcrl promised the most liberal and friendly treatment by Apilcnc citizens without regard to party. He agreed to supple ment Abilcnc's excellent water ith "iced buttermilk," which of course caught the farmers on the committee.

Abilcnc's success is due to hard and earliest work on the part of her citizens. The pre sent county clerk, G. I). Kciffcr, a populist and a hustler, is one to whom much of the honor is due. H.

C. Cranston a member of the committee is another hose work was effective. N. H. Kobson the present populist s'icriff is another whose work told on the crowd.

The work ofG.C. Stcrl who although a republican was of such a nature as to impress our people with the liberality of Abilene citizens, and the same can be said of W. S. Hollinger. The Lmpotia boys who made .1 gallant fight for their city, accept the results in a cheerful manner and propose to do better in the future.

The contest was conduct ed in a gentlemanly and kindly spirit and was without malice toward anyone. The committee in session to-day fixed the basis of representation as follows! Vox the Hutchinson convention onc-dcle alcat-large and one for tvery $00 Votes or a major fraction thereof cast in 1 894, making over 400. BRtlDBHTIIlL, B. If. 3 La, Chairman. Secretary. People'e Parly Central ('mmlllee Meeting.

At office nl Chairman in the city of Oswego on Saturday February 29 for the purpose of designating a time and place for holding a county convention to select delegates to the stale conven ion to be held at liulchincon on March i8ih, E. Williams, Chairman. A story, which reveals one of the horrible phazes of slavery as it was sometime practiced in the Southern states has just come to light at Oglethorpe, Ga. John Mimms is a substantial negro farmer, who has held positions of trust and who has the confidence of lus white neighbors. A few months ago he was made happy with a purse raised by his white friends to enable him to get married.

The woman was much his junior, but it seemed to be a case of love at first sight. They were married, and there was happiness in their home until a few days ago. when he and his ife went to visit his mother-in-law at Grangcrvillc. It was then that he discovered that the mother-in-law was one of his old time slavery wives and that Lizzie Harmon, the woman to whom he had been married months, was his own daughter. It is aid that the revc lation has so preyed upon the mind of the old man that he will have to be sent to an an-lum.
