L. Siebert, an event long to be remembered, especially by the bride and groom, when John Wittischlager and Mary Jacobs became one. The ceremony was witnessed by about forty guests, who enjoyed themselves hugely. John Templin officiated, and seemingly tied the knot so tight that they will never be able to untie happy couple were presented with suitable presents, and not being able to ascertain all the names will only give a part: Mr. and Mrs.

J. Hallman, castor and table set. i Mr; and Mrs. W. L.

Since W. L. Siebert has been in the employ of Burkholder Bro's he has become quite corpulent, but did seem to be aware of the fact till the other day when a young lady asked him what made him so fat. C. F.

Hamel and pig's-tongue can not agres. The landlord of the Canada House says the first time he ever got 'em was at Buffalo, N. Y. He got too many and never liked 'em since. Theobold Jacobs says he is going to take a claim in Chase county.

Young fellow, it looks as though the claim was already taken, and all you have to do now is to prove up and take the property. The young men who went to the wedding the wedding the other night fired their guns while fully a half mile from the house, and then went home thinking they had a glorious time. L. A. Lenherr, school teacher, farmer and linguist, speaking German, French and English fluently, says money is rather scarce just now but to send him the Arcade anyhow.

Burkholder Siebert Co. sold a wagon the other day to Peter Unruh." As a sample of what Canada is as a trading point we refer you to the fact that Burkholder Siebert Co. alone bought nearly 300 dozen of eggs last week, and last Saturday their sales amounted to nearly $400. A petition against changing the county lines has been pretty generally circulated and signed in this vicinity. It is said that 1 Harvey county is trying to annex West Branch township, and a rumor to the effect that Peabody wants to cut Marion, Harvey and Butler to make a new county, with Peabody as county seat.

The first is trying to be accomplished, but we have no faith in the latter. Henry Hett, a substantial farmer living south of Canada, bought a fine new "Wilcox White organ for $140 of E. W. Weems, of Marion, last week. While in Marion last Saturday we had ocassion to call on our old friend Will Brockett, late manager of the Chicago Lumber but now with Home Land, Loan Insurance Co.

We found them full of business, and several buyers were in enquiring for property. They have some good bargains in city property and farms but our few rusty nickels would not reach the lowest. When buying a piano or organ do not trust outside parties, but secure one of some home man, who will guarantee your instrument, and is responsible. E. W.

Weems is just that kind of a man, and can always be found at Marion. W. L. Si ebert has been promoted to weigh-master with Burkholder Bro'sv Mrs. E.

Thomas, mother-in-law of J. Welfare, and Mrs. Henry Rats-, liff, sister of Mrs. Welfare, were visiting with our depot agent a few days the past week. It is an undeniable fact that the couu try is becoming very dry.

Wells are going dry many sections, especially on the high lands, while the ground is cracking open on the roads and hard dry places to an extent to sometimes endanger the wheels of light vehicles. It is not uncommon to see these crevices extending many yards, and crossing and re-crossing each other, giving the impression to the Uninitiated of some convulsion of the earth's surface, or a young earthquake. BOOM! BOOM! Considerable activity has been displayed in Canada town lots in the past few days. We have expected and predicted all winter that Canada would pick up and grow in the spring The town was laid out and started a year or two ago, just at the beginning of the hard times, and at a time when capital was slow to invest, but now with the opening of one of the grandest years for Marion county since her organization for building and improving, Canada takes the infection, and seems to have it hard. The few who are now here are straining every nerve to raise a little ready cash to invest in town property.

A few outsiders have seen with a prophetic eye the future of our little town and have purchased lots, among them we might mention Representatives Rogers and Morse, each having secured a business lot on Main street. Our prospects for the Pennsylvania road and the fact that three or four new business enterprises are being established seems to have caused this sudden activity in real estate, and the fact remains that never since the town started has there been so much buying and selling as has been displayed last Saturday and yesterday. Canada being within one-half mile of the exact center of the county each way, surrounded by the richest farms in the State, and blessed with an abundance of the purest and best water, is ample reasons of themselves for the upbuilding of the placey and as she is now taking an early start will outgrow her petticoats long, be-, fore the summer is over. Isaac Good, Henry Wismer, Chris Siebert, Aba Burkholder, D. H.

Good, John N. Funk. Aaron Schwi-etzer 'and the Paul Bro's are all solid sul tantial men here, and are now tafc mg hold to push matters. i yo'wtis the time for men with Ldeans, and also the smaller capitalists, to invest while lots are going at nominal figures. A surer and safer investment can not be made in- the county than to take lots as they are now being sold." If any one is going into business, this is the place, and if you want to build, the town com pany here will help you to do so Good residence lots at from t25 to $50, and business lots in the same proportion, will not remain at these figures but a short time, and we vould advise you to buy right now.

Mrs. Samuel Burkholder has been quite sick the past few days. Dr. Blake, who is attendtug physician, says the old lady has had quite a serious attack, bat thinks now, will recover. Mrs.

Burkholder has lived many long and usefnl years, and we trust will be spared ma ay more. ado in regard to his machine shop, in fact has of late been most of his time to his but ut now says that he will keep his shop running hereafter and will have a wagon maker and a blacksmith to help. This enterprise will be a good thing for Canada, as a good deal of capital will be invested and a large amount of work done. Trade is improving each week. Farmers are beginning to realize that they can get goods here as low as at the larger towns.

Robert Turner has moved to town and taken up headquarters at the Canada House. E. W. Weems, of Marion, can sell you a new Wilcox White or Tem- I plin organ; a Steinway, Haines Bro's or Briggs piano, or an Ameri can sewing machine, for less money than any other house in the west. Go to him and see about thes things yourself.

Moritz Sons respectfully solicits the patronage of the public in black-smithing and wagon making. He says he does good work cheaper than the cheapest. E. W. Weems informed us the other day that he had sold this year thirteen organs, 'and that he has twelve more on the road, which will be in this week..
