Word has been'received here of a brutal and revolting attempt at murder had been committed, in Clark township this county, Friday morning last, which for atrociouness cannot be improved on in the annals of crime. A hired mail, a Bohemian named Frank Patcki, employed on the farm of Jame3 Noon being the guilty wretch. From what we can learn, the hired man came to the house for his meal which the lady of the house prepared for him.

While she was pouring out a cup of coffee, he grabbed the defenceless woman and struck her a number of blows upon her head with a small stove lifter, rendering her almost senseless. He was traced to within a short distance of this place. Mrs. Amanda Shockley, of Clifford township, was adjudged insane Tues day. She was in the asylum about seven months ouce before and was dis missed, pronounced cured, but the pas' winter she was taken sick with lagrippe which left her in demented condition She is perfectly harmeless, and was taken back home by her son, awaiting orders to take her to the asylum. R. Baker and Master Thurston have gone back to Indiana on a visit, leaying W. R. at home to care for things. The Highland school which nas been so successfully taught for nine months by Miss May Gourley, closed on Tuesday of this week.

Two large Baldwin consolidating switch engines, destined for Pureed, were side tracked for a few hours at this place Wednesday afternoon. -Funke Bueke has an emphatic say in their advertisement and locals this week. They will drive through, spending some of the time in fishing and hunting.
