It is reported that dehorned cattle in considerable aumbora are received at the Chicago stock yards, and their condition is noticeably better than that of the cattle with horns; they are in better flesh and are not freshly scratched and scarred. John M. Rearick of Holyrood, made us a flying visit last Sunday and returned Sunday. -Bunker Hill to Russell Journal. We reccived a certificate of Membership to the State Historical Society of Topeka, for which Secretary Adams will please accept our thanks. The road near the German church is being fixed this week.

The big hollow will be raised about five feet, which will greatly improve the road. The weather so. far this winter is all that could be asked for, no cold weather to speak of and a good 1 respect for a mild winter. Kansas is the place to live in. We received a communication this week, without any name signed.

We would say to that party that we publish no such article, until we know who the writer is. We desire to send specimen copies of the ENTERPRISE to every family in the county who are not subscribers. We invite everybody to send us the address of their friends and neighbors. The town of Thomas is nearly deserted. There is only three places of business open at present, a Grocery store, Hotel and Livery stable, the rest of the town has been moved to Geneseo and other points.

T. J. Woodmansee was taken with cramps one day last week while he was out on the prairie, and lay on the ground several hours before he was able to get to the house. Tha last report is that be is no better. Byron Church i3 talking of taking an extended trip to Michigan next month, to be gone about six weeks.

He has been a resident of Kansas for the past 16 years and has never been back to visit his old home in Michigan. Dr. Griffith and lady of Kanopolis were in Holyrood and vicinity last week visiting old friends, The informed us that the Land Company would soon commence boring for salt and were also pogotjating for a sugar plant. Died. FREDERICK--At his residence in Barton county, of inflammation of the bowels, Mr, J.

J. Frederick. Mr. Frederick was one of the oldest settlers in the county, having settled there about 12 years ago. He leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.

The Thirteenth Annual Meeting of the Kansas State Historical Society will be held in the Hall of the House of Representatives, at Topeka, on Tuesday Evening, January 15th, 1889, for the election of one.third the members of the Board of Directors, and the transaction of such other business as may come before the meeting. Addresses will also be delivered upon subjects of Kansas History, by berg of the Society and others, A meeting of the Board of Directors will be held at three o'clock p. m. of same day, in the rooms of the Bocicty. All members are requested to be present.
