Lem. Ileynohls of Cherokee county met with a serious accident, which narrowsly escaped from being fatal. lie had come to Chetopa during the day, and started home on horseback in the evening. During the time which elapsed between his coming and going a wire fence had been built across the road he traveled through the bottom cast of the river. He did not notice this wire until he rode against it.

The horse, cut by the wire, jumped and threw him. Ho fell with his rigli thigh across the sharp which cut a fearful wound. The cut extends about four inches across his thigh and an equal length up and down it, and fully nn inch deep. The femoral artcrv was almort laid bare. He also sustained a painful cut on the uris.

Here he helped himself to Jake's watch and chain, vest and pants, the latter containing $2 15, and then went out through the bedroom window. Canada township eullered a good deal from the same storm which shook things in Chetopa. The farm house of Peter Swenson was destroyed, and Mr. S. badly hurt; D. Parry's house was moved from Its foundation; J.
