0 1 Vol ume Two. Kansas, Two Weeks Ending November 19 1898. Number 39 in jt JW li Li mS i nnrl tnnv lliov trnrt no ihfv rlirl HEWS, OF KANSAS CHURCHES. Reported by Loyal Baptists. them.

Hoping God may direct in this years campaign in all departments of work, I remain, yours truly, WM. WILBER, District Missionary. HOYT. This church is one of the quiet, steady churches of Kansas. Their pastor, Rev.

me is as good as I can wish for him or any man. I feel fully satisfied of God's guidance in my leaving this field, and yet it is hard to leave just as the Lord has so abundantly blest and enabled them to have a nice house in which to worship Him, and go I know not where. I don't know yet where He will locate me. I go tomorrow to Junction City to be with the church there over Sunday, but whether I will be settled there or not is as yet unknown to me. I may fit the work there and I may not, and of course the Lord will guide just right in the matter.

The new house here is a good substantial frame 32x46 feet building, with a comfortable seating capacity of 250 people, and 325 in an emergency. Extending thanks through you to all who in any way helped us in. this building fund of $1,702.75 (that being the ex act cost of the house), I am gratefully, II. D.HUGHES. SOUTH CONCORD ASSOCIA- TION.

The fifth Sunday meeting of this Association was held with the Philadelphia church October 28-30. Most of the pastors of the Association were together with a number of the deacons, and a good degree of enthusiasm was manifested throughout the session. Sermons were' preached by Rev. John Dyer, Rev. C.

B. Gray, and Rev. J. N. Kidd.

The program in the main was WASHINGTON. J. B. Daly of Denver, began a meeting with the church three weeks ago. The church building has been so overcrowded that it is proposed to hold the.

meetings in the rink next week. to date twelve persons have made a public 'profession, over thirty have arisen and expressed a desire be Christians, many backsliders have been reclaimed, and the church thoroughly aroused. Mr. Daly preaches the old gospel with power and direct plainness. His Bible readings are deeply spiritual, and his singing is very effective.

He goes. from here to the church at Fremont, Neb. FROM BRO. WILBER, 'Tuesday following the I joined Rev. AV.

S. Cook of Bethel XT A -r Geo. II. Clarke, resides in the parsonage next to the meeting house. He loves his people and his people love him.

They have a good Sunday school and a vigorous Junior Union Sunday school Mis sionary. C. S. Sheflield spent Sunday, November Oth, with this people. He preached in the morning and took a col lection for the Missionary work of 'the American Baptist Publication Society.

In the afternoon he" conducted a Sunday school institute, in which he endeavored to answer some of the hard questions that were put to him. Our Sunday school work is full of difficulties, and requires the very best thought of our best men and women. Some of our churches are making the mistake of assuming that anything is good enough for the Sunday in, Keno county, mnnescan vs-sociation, to assist in a few days' meetings. The terrible storms and; the1 unsavory condition of the church has made the work Up to the time of writing, after eight days' we find ourselves in the midst of a most enjoyable revival in the church, and some visible effects among the unsaved, as are inquiring the way of life. I expect to leave here the 31st for a work at Chase and Ellinwood in Rice county.

These meetings will be continued by school. The Hoyt people believe that S. Cook, until the harvest is gathered. I am' pleased to chronicle the marriage of one of our most worthy missionaries, Rew j. Umberger, of Fall River, to Miss Mildred Wheeler, of New Albany, on Tuesday, the 25th' of October.

Miss Wheeler is a most worthy Christian lady, and will be of great hep to her husband in the ministry of the gospel. May God's richest blessings go with them. Bro. Umberger has one- Imlf of his time unoccupied as pastor. and would 'love; to 1 settle with some doctrinal, and although the discussions brought out some differences of opinion, yet it was pleasant and profitable.

The next meeting will be at. Hewins. Most all the churches of this Association have pastors. Rev. Edith Hill-Booker holds forth at Caney, Rev.

C. B. Gray at Newton and More Prairie, Rev. J. K.

Tins-ley at Leeds, Rev. J. W. Jent at Lookout Valley, and Rev. J.

N. Kidd at Cedar Vale and Hewins. The latter has been giving Sedan one-fourth 'of his time, Cedar Vale one-fourth and Hewins the remainder, but he has now closed his work at Sedan to put in all kis time at Cedar Vale and Hewins. The Cedar Vale church has such progress the past year that it is now building a good parsonage, and is able to support preaching for one-half time. The parsonage will be completed the last of this month or first of next, and will cost $800 or $900.

No debt will be allowed to hamper the church in its future work. The Hewins church has repainted its beautiful house, and is making some progress. The pastor recently, closed a meeting of eleven days at an out-station five miles in the country, and baptized seven during the meeting. The church has about 100 members. J.

N. KIDD. JENNINGS. 1 Sunday, November Gth, was a. great day with the Long Island Baptist Church, for on that date their house worship was dedicated.

Rev. E. Meredith preached the sermon," and $401.00, including $100 given by the State Convention, was raised. Thus the best is none too good for their Bible school. LONG ISLAND The Lord has blessed us most won-derously here in both temporal and spiritual matters.

We dedicated our new church house Sunday, absolutely'frce of debt, General Missionary Meredith preaching the sermon and conducting the services. And truly Bro. Meredith preached us. a most excellent and uplifting sermon, and the whole service was one that will long be remembered in this community. My pastorate here was closed, and the new pastor, Rev.

John H. Briscoe, was on the field and takes hold of a most splendid and hopeful work with as good people as God has ever called to His work anywhere. May God's richest-blessings rest upon them and the new pastorate. Saturday night I was to give a talk to our B. Y.

P. a kind of farewell, advisory talk, and when wife, and Meredith and I got home from the church we found our house full of members and friends, 'and every available table spread and fully prepared with a most bounteous supper. They seated and fed just 89 people. After supper the ladies presented wife a nice rag carpet, and the membership of the Big Creek church, of which I have also been presented me with a watch and chain; and by this they cemented another tie of affection between us and themselves and made it the harder for us to leave this dear field, every foot of which I love. Again, may the good Lord's blessings rest upon them, church that he can work with Fall River Church.

Any church in Fall Riyer Association would be fortunate to secure him at once. I learn that Gilluly and Benington (evangelists) are having precious meetings at St. John, Kan. NnvpmW 2 thev beerin meetincsat Stafford, and from there I learn they go to Independence, Kan. iviay linn ricniv uiess uiciu uu mtsv.

uuuoi Preachers- wishing to take work in southwest Kansas or in southeast Kansas, I would be glad if they would correspond' with me, as 4 we have; some rhnrrhpa fieediriff help at once. Address me at Ottawa. All mail will; be forward ed at once. Ministers wishing to settle in my territory, I would be glad to meet on my field, that I may form an acquain tance and thereby Decome Detter neip to 4.
