It is useless to say that this portion of the programme was so well performed that, had there been a German present, he would have considered himtelf thrown far into the shade. A good deal of care in the elocutionary department, with the cultivation of that free-and-easy deportment that must characterize him who appears before an audience, is needed. We regret that space forbids our entering into a detailed ao-oount of the performance. Some fifty dollars were netted, and all feel pleased with the access. C. A Makmotc IssTrrcnoy. We publish in another column the annual statement of the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Cempany. While we desire to encourage every institution ohartered for so laudable a purpose, provided that they are possessed of a sufficient capital to render them safe beyond peradventure, we feel that this staunch old company deserves especial mention, for peculiar reasons. In tha first place its assets have reached the enormous sum of nearly eighteen million dollars; Us income for 1867 was over seven millions and three guarlers; its income for interest alone exceeded its losses by over one hvndrod and twenty-four thousand dollars, and the dividends returned to its members have averaged over fifty per oent.

At a meeting of the citizans of Olathe, held at the Court House this day, WH. M. Fishback was called to the charr and W. F. Goble and S.

E. McKee appointed Secretaries. Judge A. S. Devenjiey called upon Mr.

Roy to address the i meeting and state the object, which was to consider the expediency of incorporating the town. Ha offered some very good argu- .1 menis in iavor oi incorporation, ids sum ming up or which was the systmmatie improvement of the town, bo that it would be both pleasant and convenient. Col- Burris was called upon for a speeob, and expressed himself in favor of incor-ation. On motion of Mr. Rov a commit tee of five was appointed to investigate the 6ubflct and, if necesssry, take a census of the town and report to an adjourned meeting.

On motion of J. T. Burris, the President was appointed, by the meeting, as Chairman of that committee. The President then appointed the following gentlemen John T. Barris, U.

McBride A. 8. Devenney, and J. V. Offenbacker.

On motion of Col. Barns the meeting abioorned to meet on next Saturday evening at 7 o'clock, r. at the Court House, when the report of the committee will be received. W. H.

Tillotson, Librarian. Quite a number were out for a beginning. On the 26th there was no aobool, -owing to the rain which poured down all day. On last Sunday the report showed forty-osw teachers and pupils present, the classes were organized, and the school starts off in good shape. A large Bible class was formed, and some grave and very difficult questions concerning the firft four or fire verses in the first chapter of Genesis, were brought ap, discussed and laid over for next Sabbath.

A part of the questions are these What period of time is m.ant by the term "In the beginning," in the first verse?
