The wind rose suddenly from the north and rapidly chilled the most comfortable atmosphere. The thermometers fell to ten below zero, a change of nearly degrees.

In the Display window of the Alden Lumber and Supply Company are numerous articles which have been carved from wood by Chas Heckel jr. Now go and buy a knife and see how many of you can duplicate any of the articles, cutting them out of one piece of wood. Death Of Izora Baldwin.

Word has been received here of the death of Miss Izora Baldwin, at the hoine of her parents at Tonwanga, Okla. Miss Baldwin was one of the faculty of the Alden schools for several years some twelve years or more ago. She was forced to give up her school work, several years ago, on account of failing health, which had already gotten too much start to ever be regained. The many friends, which Miss Baldwin made here in two years, will have saddened hearts to hear of her departure. Mrs.

Robert Read another of the early residents here passed away Monday morning at the home of her only son, Arthur. She has been failing fast for several years and realized her time was drawing near. Mrs. Read was a kind neighbor, loving mother, and a friend to all who knew her. Mrs.

Susan Read. Mary Susan Chaffin was born Owensboro Feb. 19, 1854 and died at the home of her son, Arthur, at Alden, Kansas, Dec. 18, 1916, aged 62 years, 9 months and 26 days. In 1890 she was married to Robert Read of Topeka, Kansas and to this union was born one son, Arthur Read of Alden, Mrs.

Read was not only a dear, kind mother to her own boy but was faithful loving mother to her own boy but was a faithful mother to Mr. Read's seven motherless children, sharing their joys and sorrows, caring caring for them as her own. In her early girlhood she was converted and united with the Baptist Church. She was a great sufferer for several months but she never complained and was ready to go when the summons came. Her funeral service was held in the Baptist church at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon Dec.
