Having bad a eeling good, we propose to lose no tbankB for past favors. "We beiieve that at low prices give us a Firm Grip on the-" good will of all who have patronized us Although having no desire to crow we honestly think unless competitors come down and realize that they must with others, that we will double our business in the coming year. Our low Cah prices has undoubtedly been an Unpleasant Surprise to old fashioned high priced merchants. We have no hesitation in speaking right'out and claiming what we can substantiate, viz Tliat nowhere "can you le tettexsni ted or getlmore'for your money tlian by calling Oil USs are thoroughly in earnest, andhopea friendly meeting will prove the truth of our assertions.Gratitude for past favors makes us too full for ut terance. Respectfully, South Side of Main Street, Marion, Kansas.

patent husking Esq. Gaver has been improving his residence this week, by a new coat of paint. For exquisite styles in Ladies winter wraps and overgarments go to Costello's- the leading barher of Marion will cat your hair in fine stj-Ie for twenty- fivn cents. Stop at Col. Bate's and get your Pop and cider, fine candies, nuts, tobaccos, fec.

The Boone concert was indeed a grand affair, and was far better than was expected. Go to Chris. Nay's barbershop on south side of Main street and get a clean shave for ten cents. Mr. Wakefield has been putting some finishing touches on his hand some residence on the hill.

The timbers for the roof of the new Opera house are being arraing-ed in their respective Paiisian novelties in Velvet, Plush, Fur and trimmed cloaks and dolmans at Costello's. Anjthing and everything produced and factored in the Orient or Occident, can be found at Costello's at reduced prices. We notice many emigrants on the road this week. They are taking advantage of the pleasant weather, we supposp. Kansas home raised wool and Kansas nome manatactured peice go' ds flannels and hosiery in great profusion at Costello's.

The largest stock of Plymouth and baranac buck gloves and mittens, direct from Gloversville, New York factor3- at Costello's. Swisher saj's he oftin goe3 out two or three niilles in the country to deliver floods. Wonder if there is'n't some other attraction. Remember Costello does not af firm that he can give his goods 1 I .1 i tor noiuing, out ne win exenange with 3-ou for a reasonable considera tion.

The mud has at last completely-dried up and our farmers can return to their corn which they were obliged to abandon on account of the wet weather. When ever you find two chaps that are more fund of oysters than squire Costello and the assistant scribe of this paper you will have to look awhile. Jjwis Liverty has not bought Mr. Houser's meat market, as was stated last week, but Lewis informs us that he intends to start a new market, independent of anybody. A.

W. Brewertun is making arraingments preparatory to laying brick walks on hi grounds on the hill. A brick walk makes a fine appearance at first, but its durability is questionable. Judge Brockett has been having his house on the hill generally repaired, among the many improvements we have noticed a new coat of paint being put on by S. P.

Hill the boss painters of Marion- We noticed that several of the large oottonwood trees near the railroad track have been cut down, this is quite an improvement, as heretofore it has been almost impossible to see the track until fairly on it. Messrs Brewer Stannard, of the Ottawa Star Nurseries, have opened adilivery here. They have about ten or twelve hundred dollars worth of as fine, healthy looking fruit trees as we have ever seen. Yon will please remember they were raised in Kansas. Last Tuesday we saw the smiling countenance of John Perry, Democratic candidate for Sheriff, again.

He was on our streets shaking hands with his many friends, among whom we feel prond of being numbered. We believe thai Mr, Perry's chances are good for being elected, and we feel quite sure that if be is elected the voters of Marion county will never have cause to regret that for once they have selected a farmer to fill an important county office. Our town was favored last Toes-day with a rope-walkers exhibition. The performance, took place on a rope stretched across from Brickly's hardware store to the Mebl building, causing quite a crowd to collect on the street. A while after the performance was over we were standing on the sidewalk talking with several gentlemen, among whom were Dr.

Hannaford and Mr. Brewer, when our eccentric townsman, Mr. Rhodes, approached and remarked, that he saw quite an excitement awhile ago and did'n't know but they were haDging John Wand on one side of the. street and John Brumbaugh on the other, when one of the bystanders remarked that there was no danger of hanging Brumbaugh, hs his head was so soft it wonld slip through the noose and let him oat. We have learned that John Mc Carty, of Clear creek township, has sold his farm for twenty-eight hundred We regard it as a good sale, and are glad to see John get ahead. We have known John intimately for about eight years, and can truly say that he is a friend and neighbor, there are none whom we esteem more highly. We do not know where McCarty will move his family, but we do know that be has a family to be proud of, and where ever they go, they will find plenty of friends. "Put." Francis has just returned from Wisconsin where he has been visiting for some time past, he also Lhad his eyes treated at Idiicago during his absence.

Mi. Francis informs us that the temperance question is being agitatti very much the same in Chicago as in Kansas. In speaking of Wisconsin, he says the times and crops are not near so crood as in Kansas, and that there are more people who are loosing their property in Wisconsin than in Kansa. Of course "Put." is better pleased with Kansas than ever before. Last Tuesday afternoon was bo pleasant that we ventured out of the office and took a walk up to to that city of magnificent distances known in these parts as Jimtown.

We were surprised to see the number of new houses and improvements in this division of Marion. The improvements out there are so numerous that we have not suffici ent snnce to do them iustice, We went through the new mill, this is truelv a fine structure, is about fifty feet long and forty feet wide, and three and a half story high and presents a very imposing appearance. Last Monday evening our citj-was favored with a musical entertainment, by blind Boone, at Roger's Hall, which was attended by a Isrge and appreciative audience. We can Bay for ouself, that it was the greatest treat we have enjoyed for a long time. Boone's rendering of many different and difficult pieces on the piano were really superb, while his imitations of other musical instruments was good, some of them were merged into the comical; his.

rendering of the tornado and thunder shower, was simrly sublime; while his rendering of the train of cars was laughable. When we consider that Boone's musical has bten acquired without the aid of e3'e'ght, we believe the native genious of thi man to be unsurpassed, We wbh him great success, and believe he deserves it. Yeagley. One of the beauties and charms of an editor's life is his deadheading it all occasions. No one who has ever tasted the sweers of the bliss can begin to take in its glory and its happiness. lie 100 worth of advertising for a railroad, gets for a year, rides 25 dollars worth, and then he is looked upon a deadhead or a half blown deadbeat. He "puff" a concert troupe ten dollars worth and gets one dollar in and is thus passed free.

If the hall ia crowded he is begrudged the room he occupies, for If complimentartos were pying tickets the troupe would be much In pocket. He blows and puffs church festival free to any desired extent, and does the poster printing at half rates, and rarely gets a "thank you" for it. He goes as a part of bis duty as di tor. lie does more work gratuitously for the town and community than the rest of the-population put together, and gets cursed for it all, white in many iustances a man who donates a few dollars lor the Fourth of base-bail club, or church, Is gratefully remembered. Oh, it ia a sweet thing to be an editor He passes "free," you know.

it We are creditably informed tbat people buy, and lead and like The Sun tor the tulluwing reasons atnooir other: More people have read The Sun daring the year fust passed than ever be-tore since it was first printed. No other newspaper published on this side of the earth has been bought and read in any year by so many men and women. Because its news columns present in attractive form and with the sreatesi possible accuracy whatever has lute rest ir burnt tkiad; the events, the deeds aud misdeeds, the wisdom, the nhilos pby, the notable tolly, the solid sense, me improving nonense all the news of the busiest world at present revolving in space. -Because people have learned that in its remarks ucei ning persons and at lai.s The Son makes a practice ot telling tiiem tue exact truth to the best or itt ability three hundred and sixty-five uays in the )er, be tore election as well as alter, about the whales as about the smau n-n, in me iace ot flisseiit as plainly aud leailesaly as when supported by general approval. liecause it is very body's newspaper. No man is so humble that Tub Sun ii ditiereut to hU welfare and his rights. No. nmu is so rich that it can allow in justice to be dt.ne him. No mn, nor association ot men, is owerful enough to be exempt Irom the strict application of its principles of right and wrong.

Because in politics it has fought tor a Zt-n years, without iutermissh-n, and sometimes almost alone among news paper, i ho tight that has rt suited in the recent overwhelming popular verdict agaiirst Itooesouiem at lor honest government. No matter what party is in power, The Sun stai.dsand will continue to. stand like a rock tor the interests of the people against the ambition oi bosses, encroachments ot monopolists, and the dirhonest schemes of public robbery. AH this is what we are told almost daily by our friends. One man holds that Thk Sun is the best religious newspaper ever published, becatue it has already whipped halt the rascals out of the party, and is proceeding ugainst the other half with undiminished vigor.

A third believes it to be the best magazine of general literature in existence, because its readers miss nothing worthy of notice that i- current in the world ot thought. So every friend of The discovers one of its m-uiv sides that Hp-peals particular force to his individual liking. It yi already kow The Sun you will observe that in 18S3 ir. is a little better than ever before. If you d- not already know The Sun, you will find it to be a mirror of all human activity, a storehouse of he choicest products common sense and imagination, a mainstay for the cause of honest government, a sentinel for genuine J' flers'-ni tn Democray, a scourge tor wickedness of every species and an uncommonly good investment tor the year 1883.
