He visited a great many sheep ranches during his U'lp, and found the sheep all in fine oonditlon, aud the owners elated with the prospects ahead of them.

Wool is advancing in with a diminished supply on hand, and better times are in store for wool growers everywhere. We want to make the stock aud farm department of the News an interesting and profitable feature of the paper. Tho short-horn sale of Messrs. A. II. Lackey Son, which occurred on the fair grounds in this city on Thursday of last week, was, everything considered, mite a success. The cattle were mostly young, and just off the grass, and in these depressed times to make an average of 86 per head was considered by all breed ers present as doing exceedingly well.

The animals were, however, very well bred, and were an exceedingly line lot of cows, heifers and young bulls, and ought, good breeders tell us, to have brought much higher prices, borne very blocky, beefy Rose of Sharon two-year- old heifers sold for $80 to $90, and a splendid yearling of the same family as low as $00. Lady Peabody, a Young Mary cow, live years old, sold for $105. There were a number of line young Gruickshanks sold, and for them there was quite a struggle, all selling at good prices compared with others. Aconite nd, a yearling brought $100, and 3lr. C.

D. Cutler, of Harper, was tho fortunate buyer. Butterfly 10th, a sucking heifer calf, brought $130 and went to the flno herd of Mr. O. Eichholtz, of Wichita.

Gnindiilora, a two-year-old, brought 91 and went also to Mr. 10. Grange Lass ilrd, a yearling, went to mingle with the many beauties that adorn tho exec lent herd of Mr. A. J.

Capt. Frank Doster addressed an audienco in the opera house, last evomng, on the subject ot re-voting bonds for the Hock Island railroad and other county bonds.
