Such indifference is an injury to the pupil, and a blight to the public at Urge, which is parrot-like in this par-' ticular it repeats what it hears. Thoughts on Bro. Hamilton's Sunday Sermon. Sparring Exhibition.

The event of the week in the way of sport was the sparring exhibition at the opera house Tuesday night, the chief attraction being a go between Matty Mathews and "Rube" Ferns. Mathews and "Rube" had met five times in the ring and the latter had the bes'. of it three times. The event had been advertised only a few days and the weather be-i tg very bad, the crowd was only moderate, only about a hundred people being present. But i was a lively affaV and mostly of a jolting character, Preliminary to the main attraction was a lively tilt between Dan and Andrew Frrns, and Jim Kell-tt and Frank rtanley.

The 'Ferns lads dis- ness at the old stand. Ferns forced matters after this and Mathews did the leg work to keep out of the way, and it is to his credit that he is a clever dodger. It was give and take in the third round, both men receiving some hard jolts that caused the perspiration to stand out in beads as large as some kinds of eggs. Interest in the affair warmed up about this time and when time was up, the con testants showed clearly that they had bee-i up agaiotst it. The last round was not materially different from the third only the hitting seemed hardly as heavy, there being more skill dis playd in this round probably than in any of the others It was a good sparring contest and called for e-q leut applause by the spectators, all of wh were well pleased with the entertain neut.

Rev. Hamilton had for his text last Sunday the 11th verse of the eighth chapter of Romans, and D. Keilett and Stanley then had a four round go that was notable for speed ard some good hard knocks. Honors were about equal and this feature of the evening's entertainmen-, very interesting. It lacked a few minutes to ten o'clock when Mathews and Ferns stepped into the riDg and the referee, Dicaie Martin of Weir, announcjd that it would be a four round contest of two minutes each, the intention had been for a ten round go.
