The funeral was held in Topeka on Tuesday. Harvesting is on in full force thruout the country. Thirteen new binders and 11,000 pounds of twine went out of the Houck Macha Hardware store alone, this week. That certainly looks as tho we were doing our bit to scalp the kaiser.

And, much to the chagrin of the men folks, she does it just as well as they could, too. Why can't some more of us do likewise? Mr. and Mrs. E.

THE UNIFYING INFLUENCE OF THE WAR "In my own mind I am convinced that not a hundred year of peace could have knitted this Nation together as this single year of war has knitted it together, and, better even than that if possible. Look at the picture: In the center of the scene 4 nations engaged against the world, and at every point of vantage showing that they are seeking selfish aggrandizement; and against them 23 governments representing the greater part of the population of the world, drawn together into a new sense of community of purpose, a new sense of unity of life."
