Wash Funk a sheep herder of Bar bour county and another old time Illl uois friend of tho "junior," staid over at tho Kingman house, Tuesday night. Wash was on his way to Now Mexico, whero ho will go into sheep husbandry on an extensive scale. Wo heard that a couple of prospec tivo candidates for sheriff were in town tho other day, but after looking over our subscription books we con eluded that it was a mistake, as their names wore not visible to the naked eye. Mr. I.

Goldberg, of Hutchinson, will placo a full stock of ready mado clothing in tho store of G. B. Sigler, in a few days. James Jordau one of tho merchants of Kingman, will take charge of tho clothing de partment. See advertisement in our local columns.

G. D. Baker of tho Topcka Com inonwealth spent two or three days of the present week in Kingman, looking after tho interest of that paper. The Commonwealth has long stood at the head of journalism in this state and tho fact that it is the official state paper makes it a very val liable paper for Kan sans. Rev.

Starling Turner and wife of Petersburg, Illinois, are visiting their son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs, Ed. Wright of this place. Mr. Turner is one of the proprietors of tho Kingman water mills and will probably re main here for several weeks looking after his interest in connection there with.

We see by a lato number of the Kiugman county (Kansas) Citizen that Frank L. Shun, formerly of this city, has risen to the distinction of associate editor of tho same. The Citizen, of course, is devoted to the building up of Kansas in general, and Kingman county in particular. May success attend you, Frank, is our earnest wish. Newton (Illinois) Times.

School was again dismissed Tuesday on account of there being no coal. It seems to us that it is folly to undertake to run a school at this so a-son of the year without fire in the room to make it comfortable for scholars. If there. is any money iu tho school treasury the boafd of directors ought to buy coal enough to last though tho balance of the term, or if not, dismiss the school. We are In receipt of the Kingman county Citizen, a neat and newsy little five column quarto, published at Kingman, Kansas, by Geo.

E. Filley and Frank L. Shup. We had often predicted that Frank would some day "make an ed'nter out'n himself," and we now feel gratified to know that our prophesy has como true. Success to this newspaper venture, financially and otherwise.

Newton (Illinois) Press. We think we can cure a bad case of backache quicker with one of Carter's Smart Weed and Belladonna Backacho plasters, than by any other application. And after tho backache is cured, you can still wear tho plaster without discomfort for two or three weeks longer. This combination of Smart Weed and Belladonna is a groat hit, and it is hard to find any pain or aclio that will not yield to it. Price 25 cents.

Sold by W. N. Porch. 80t4 Wo neglected to mention, in our last week's issue, tho chatigo of management in the Kiugman Mr. Conklin stepping out and Messrs.

Filley 'and Shup stepping in. We aro sorry to lose Sir. Conklin from the fraternity, as he always got up a paper which was a credit to Kingman county. Tho paper now has a champion heavy weight man at the head of it who will bo able to "sit down'' on any individual who opposes him, terribly hard if it becomes necessary. Meanwhile, the new firm are running a good newsy imper, and we wish them success.
