OBITUARY. Rose (Holt) Landis was born near Gillman, Livingstone County, Illinois on February 1, 1869, and died at Shawnee, Oklahoma, February 15, 1912. She was the oldest daughter of S. S. and Phoebe Holt, and was one of a family of eleven children -five sons and six daughters.

She is the first one of the children to pass away. When she was sixteen years of age her parents came to Kansas and settled on a farm near Hoyt where her mother still resides. On December 31, 1891, she was united in marriage to S. B. Landis.

With her husband they resided in Hoyt, Kansas, until 1902, when they move to Wichita, Kansas, and later to Oklahoma. To this union were born seven children- of whom are girls and two boys. Her husband and four girls survive her. She united with the Hoyt Methodist Episcopal Church in 1889, and remained a true Christian until her death at Shawnee, Oklahoma, where her membership was in the Grace Methodist Episcopal Church. In the year 1910 she became very much interested in a revival meeting at Altus, Oklahoma, at which time she received such a wonderful blessing from God, and we firmly believe that God has taken her to His Throne, where He had a place ready and waiting for her.

She was a devoted and loving wife, a tender and affectionate mother and a kind and sympathetic neighbor. None but the kindest words are spoken of her. The husband and family brought the remains to the home of her mother, Mrs. Phoebe Holt, near Hoyt, from whence they were taken to the Hoyt Methodist Episcopal Church, where the funeral services were conducted by the Pastor, Rev. J.

P. Martin, Sunday morning, February 18, 1912. The casket was decorated with an abundance of flowers, given by Here it is! Did You Guess It? The Best Oil Stove Made! The church was filled to overflowing with a multitude of sorrowing friends.

Some beautiful and impressive selections were rendered by the choir. Everything connected with her burial gave proof of the high esteem in which she was held in this community. Followed by her husband and family, her mother and all her brothers and sisters, three brothers of her husband and a large concourse of relatives and friends, the remains were laid to rest in the cemetary west of Hoyt to await the Resurrection. Her earthly body is gone for. ever but her memory ever mains with us.

Her Spirit has. gone to God who gave it and now takes it back ever to rejoice in His presence. A pure gem to Heaven is gone, We loved her so dearly on earth, A gem in the Kingdom of God is born; For to-day she enjoys the new birth. Oh, Mamma, that dear name so dear, We'll miss vou as long as we live; Without you this life will seem drear, We have lost that which no one can give. Yes, Mamma is happier to-day, Let us meet our dear one above; Although she is taken away, We'll meet again only to love.

Now, children, she told us, be brave; True our loss is all we can bear; But there's victory after the grave, That victory's your mother's up there. So farewell, a long lasting farewell; To say it almost breaks our hearts, But in Heaven our loved one will dwell As it pleases our God us to part. Then farewell, we say in once more; Farewell is all we can say, But we'll meet on that beautiful shore There our nights shall be turned.
