Monday night a burglar entered one of the rooms at the Ballou House where a lady guest was sleeping, in search of valuables. The burglar undertook to search under the ladies pillow which awoke her, at which she gave a scream that brought several men of the hotel to the room. The burglar made his escape through tbe window, and all that was missing was a ring taken from the dresser. Strange as it may seem, it appears that a death message came in the silent hour of the night bearing the sad intelligence to Mr. McLaughlin of the American House, ef tbe death of his brother who had arrived at the age of three score years and ten.

McLaughlin in the midnight hour, in his dreams could see a shrouded corpse, and upon coming to the post office next morning the first thing that met bis eyes, was a marked copy of the London Ohio Democrat, with his brothers obituary notice in. Mr. David McLaughlin had been the proprietor of the London Ohio hotel known as the Phifer House for 34 years, and like his brother of tbe American House of this place, bad gained tbe esteem and friendship of the community at large.
