In a large nu in ber of cases, tiioy could not get the proper endorsement, if they wanted to. o- The time to invent in real estate is before the boom has fully matured. Kansas has a most wonderful prospect for 1887. The building of nevr rail roads, the developing of new conn ties, the increase of manufacturing and the rush of new settlers is not confined to any one town pr country. Investors ore certain of a good return on invest xnents in every county, as Kansas seems to be the center of attraction for the whole country.

A Colorado paper nominates for the presidency in 'SS Jacob Grinn, editor of the Spring Gulch Miner. We desire to place in nomination for the vice-presidency, or second place on the national ticket, a genrleman who is will qnalified to nil the position and a thorough, true and tried democrat, C. F. Norwich News. The dead body of a man was last xveek found standing bolt upright in a loaded lumber car in Atchison. He Lad probably climbed into the car to steal a ride, and while fctanding in the open space at the end of the boards a sudden jerk had shifted the position of the lumber and crushed him against the end of the car. The moral of this circumstance is to shun the loaded dumber car when stealing rides on freight trains. We publish this for the benefit of our brother newspaper men, who will have to travel in that way or walk after April 4.

Topeka Capital. Kansas can give eveiy occupant of the United States three pecka of wheat each year; she can give every horse in the state 500 bushels of corn and seventy five bushels of oats for his year's allowance;" she can give every man in the United States one half pound of butter each season, and she raises broom corn in quantities so great asrto have a -very noti cable effect on the national market. The value of field products in Kansas last year, was sufficient to give 50 cents to every man, woman and child in the United States. The value of live stock products reach es about one third this amount. The net income from all farm products av erages about $1,700 to every farm in the state.

H. H. Dewey of Browns Creek twp. has a monstrosity in the shape of a two headed calf, each head was pro vided with a seperate neck and spinal olumn the two back bones, uniting at the hirs bv a crristly process. The tail also was double but connected until within two ar three inches of the end where it divided into two dis tinct tails, its internal arrangements were in pairs also.

It had two per feet hearts and two small imperfectly developed lungs. The ribs were also divided, tach back bone having the ribs on its side attached to it. The windpipe was not attached to the Tnn.y and the lowest stomach was entirely wanting. Taking it all in all no stranger freak of nature has ap peared for some time. There is scarcely one out of her fifty two millions of acres that is not adapted to agricultural or pastoral purposes. New York Herald. News comes to us that the meanest man on earth lives in Beloit. At the beginning of last month he made a wager with his wife that she couldn't drink a quart of milk per day for thirty days in February.

If she did he was to give her a new silk dress; if she failed she was to get him a new suit of clothes. The guiltless and unsuspecting woman finished her twenty qurrts of milk (after' a heroic study with her rebellious stomach) be fore she discovered that February had but twenty-eight days. SLACK, Proprietor, C.IXN FJ DEE, KANLAF. Com. Jack Musgrove, a young man living some distance south and west of Alton suddenly dissappeared about the 9th of March, It was known that parties in Kussell were owing him about $500. The first week in March Jack left home for Russell to collect the money com ing to him. A few days after this his wiie received a brief note purporting to be from her husband, which stated that he was tired of them all and hoped never to see them again; that ho had settled his business and was going to Oregon.

No name was signed to the writing and it wns written by a strange band A few days after this a party came to the house pretending that he wanted to buy Musgrove's horses. In the conversation he said enough to show that he knew Musgrove was missing. Next day he was seen passing the house with a trunk in his wagon, hich Mrs. Musgrove recognized as her husband's. The trunk had been left in Russell where Jack was working.

The young couple had been married but a abort time, and the strange disappearance of the husband can in no way be ac counted for unless he has been way -laid for the money which lw was known to have upon his person. Al ton Empire. Inipicgsicnn It appeal's to me the state of Kan sas can liot lull to mJie a profound impression upon tne traveler, so boundless an idea of fertility and capability is given. As you ride hour after hour and watch the cornfields stretching away as far as the eye can reach, and alternating with almost limitless pastures dotted with cattle, you feel that you are in a region that cod feed this world. There was a delightful air of thrift also in most of the homes, and many of the immense farmes were enclosed in substantial and picturesque walls of yellow looking stone.

The quarries from which it came were on every side, ne.ir the surface and easily worked, giving the impression that the kindly hand of nature had placed just what was need ed in a comparatively treeless region. It does not follow that nature meant the region to remain treeless; aud if the idea of planting one third of their state in forests should someday enter the heads of the people Of Kansas, they would develope one of the choicest garden spots of the world. How many generatieus must pass before the disposition in an eastern man to destroy a tree will be eradicated and a desire to plant a tree be developed in the average western man E. P. Roe, in the Chicago Inter Ocean.

Toe Woutru tausnn. The outlook ver the state of Kansas is cheering. When we consider the unclaimed advantages yet to be taken, the rapid strides made during the last decade through the west half of the state, it requires no foresight to lay bare the line to which progress is marching. Ten years ago the frontiersman was a skeptic to his own western horizon -t which now lie3 just this side of sunset. Theories have been well ridden and have sunken down under the tread of thousands who wait not on their logic.

The west has no time for argument, bat with a determination and faith, hobbies vanish the approach of the emi grant. The new west kuows no law of emigration, except there is a provi dence everywhere under the sun, and he who trusts and excepts it will en joy the fruits. Since the advent of man on earth, his restless spirit has taken him hither and thither in the hope of a Canaan just beyond. So the Western Hemisphere has attrac ted thousands to come and build their homes, and the state of Kansas, with its climate and full complement of other inducements, says here is th9 place to come and rest your weary head; and so they come and keep comiDg, and nothing can stay ths Exchange.
