Ralph was a Lieutenant' in the 138th Infantry, and participated In the Meuse-Ar-gonne and San Mihlel drives, and led liis company through four days of the hottest cf the Argonne scrap.

Ralph Is a graduate of the State University, the local High school, and in Paris studied in a law school there. He had not been in Sedan long when his former comrades honored hi mby electing Mm commander of the American Legion Pest of that city. Ralph has a reputation here cf being a gentleman, with all the term applies, and Chautauqua county Is going to make no mistake when they elect Ralph as their county attorney The Citizen. Ralph Rader was a student at Howard High school graduating several years ago. Misses Rose and Jane Mustek, and their mother were In Wichita a few days ago.

Miss Cecil Smith substituted for Miss Rose Musick in the Primary Department of the bcth Blizzard accompanied her and the girls will attend Business College there. Mrs. Ozclla Dclamctcr, who has been visiting with her father and sister, returned to her home in Barllcs-illc last Sunday. CONCERT-RECITAL At the High School Auditorium, Mon-Evening, May 3. Miss Maurine Smith, coutralto A program of unsual merit will bo trlven, consisting of solos, ducts, trios, and piano numbers, chosen with care from the works of the best composers, comprising popular and classical selections. Tho recital Is to be given under the management and patronage of Class No. 3, of the Presbyterian Sunday School, the proceeds to go toward the building fund of the Preby-terlnn Church. This promise 4o be the musical event of the season, und the puhjic is assured that a rare treat is in store for them, as these ladies are all accomplished musicians and will give this recital their best efforts. Smith Entertain-Faculty The faculty members were very dc lightfully entertained Thursday evening at the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Geo. Smith. During the evening a short program was given, consisting of: A reading by Mrs. Hunt; two vocal solos by Miss Cowan; a group of short songs by Miss Smith; and two piano numbers by Mrs.

McNeil. Dainty refreshments were served, and at a late hour the guests dispersed after a very sociable IN THE GRADES A scries of three base ball games between the sub-Freshmen and Sixth and Seventh grades was finished last week, with the sub-Freshmen winning two out of the three games. Miss Rose Musick, instructor of the First grade, visited in Wichita last week. Miss Cecil Smith substituted during Miss Mustek's absence. The First, Second and Third grades are very busy making May baskets Helen Force Is suffering a second relapse of the flu.

A spelling contest has been ended in the Fourth and Fifth grades. The "Standbyits" defeated the Sticktoit" side by twenty-seven points. Clare Harner, of the Fifth grade, has been absent from school on account of tonsilitis. The Fifth grade has finished Its classics textbook, and is now taking up the "Horace Mann Fifth Reader The Seventh grade History class Is making charts illustrating events which happened during different presidents' administrations. They are now studying Jefferson's period of office.

Crystal Lorance is absent from school on account of sickness. She is in the Sixth grade. The Sixth and Seventh grades have finished their spelling textbooks, and are now reviewing the diacritical markings. Last Thursday the High School Normal training class, in reviews visited next winter. Miss Minnie Griffith has been cm-ployed to teach Rule school the coming term.

Minnie graduated last year, She took four years work in thrco years, and finished school with a splendid standing. Scrgt Virgil Miller has been discharged from the hospital at Fort Sheridan, 111., and is now attending Northwestern University. Virgil was being held at-the hospital at Sheridan for treatment of the arm and shoulder Injured in the Argonne scrap, and although he has been wanting to go to Northwestern for some time, he has also been wanting to get his injured wing fixed up. He goes to this school at the expense of the government at part of their plan for fitting disabled soldiers of the late war to better equip themselves for their life work. ard friends are glad that Virgil is in such a good school and hope that he will be able to overcome all that he has lost by reason of his injury.

The Citizen. Virgil was a member of the '17 class and his school friends are glad to hear of his discharge. Ralph It. Radcr, formerly of this city, who has been practicing law in Chautauqua county, with his home at Sedan, since the close of the war, and return to this country, Is a candidate for the office of County Attor- Jessie Bacus, a member of the Normal Training class, has secured the Star school for next year, at an excellent salary.
