The institute hni closed, and as we predicted, it bus been the most successful, and the most beneficial of any previous Institute in Minion county. Ine membership only reached one hundred and twenty-five, but there were not many school children.

More than nine-tenths of them intend to teach. It sounds strong to say that a $15,000 building is being put up, but only a glance at tho interior arrangement can givo an adequate idea of what tho place will be. Professor Pierson is going to take charge of a school in lielvit, and we hopo biiccccss will uttciul him there, as it has in the institute. Professor.

II. P. llees wished the teachers. success, not only for the coming winter, but first the coming examination. Professor Bees, though a young man, iscqiuilns an instructor, with Ids coworkers.

E. Locke, Florence; Treasurer, Miss Emma' Miller, Florence; Secretary, J. F. Chcrrington, Florence. Miss Alice Hunt having arrived, the minutes of the last meeting wero read and approved.

While the male quartette were singing, the old oilicers stepped out and the new oilicers assumed tlieir respective places. The programme was then taken up as follows: Phonetics, by Mrs. L. E. Twi-ford.

This was a very interesting talk; telling the teachers how to best correct mistakes in pronunciation. "Grammar, diagram and analysis." by W.ll.Zercher, discussed by Lee Gray. "Best methods of teaching geography." by W. F. Palmer, discussed by W.

li. Zercher. Mrs. L. E.

Twiford. Grunt Johnson and J. Smith. Music "Hear dem bells" male quartte. The association then adjourned till half-past one After the association hail feasted on a Marion dinner, they once more assembled, and being called to order, the male quartte once more pealed forth with their melodious voices, singing, "Over the sea." Professor Bogem being absent, the subject assigned him was opened by H.

Zercher, and dis cussed by J. I). Mvers and Mrs. L. E.

Twiford. G. A. Tressler, discussed by II. P.

Bees. This subject was made very interesting and practi cal, as these two gentleman who discussed it have had some experience in teaching this subject. "General exercises in school." This subject was very broad, but the phase taken was in regard to scriptural reading. Discussed by U. 1).

VanOstrand and P. M. Kol-lock. "Competitive examination" J. I).

Myers. This paper brought forth the idea of having examinations in country districts, for admission into the high schools of the county. Superintendent Zercher had this in view for some time. Hereafter there will be an examination and all those passing, will receive a diploma that will admit them to tiny high school In the county. This paper was discussed by John Smith and iv.

li. Zercher. "Morals and manners. as should be taught in the school room" Arthur G. Hoover.

"Mound Build ers" Professor P. C. Zercher. This was highly appreciated, as Professor Zercher resided in Adams county, Ohio for a while and as that is the most historic place of the Mound Builders; he bad some very line specimans to show to the teachers, Song Male quartcte "Old Joe T'lis song was rendered well, so well that to satisfy the audience another had to 1q sung. And the old campaign song "Old Shady" was sung.

This brought down the house, The solo was sung by Mr. W. II. VunSchoyck A few min utes were then given for recess. Kindergaren by Miss Smith.

She iiindled the subject as one who under stood it. She is conducting a very successful one at Marion, The teachers were then given a very interesting talk upon the culture of nilk by Victor Tressler. lie had wimples of the silk from tho eggs to the sponljof silk thread lie also reeled some nilk for the teachers. A petition has been sent to the Post Office department praying for a change of an hour in the departure of the mail to be made.

It would give a great deal more satisfaction if we could have mail service on the llock Island. Mr. George Bums, a merchant of Jefferson county, Ohio, was in town this week looking for a location. The situation pleased him and it is probable that be will return in a short time and open a general store on the west side. Hereafter those who po gunning in the vicinity of Lineoluville on Sunday are in danger rf arrest and prosecution.

A number of shots were fired near hero last Sunday and the citizens are determined to have no more of it. They made the trip from Peabody unattended. Miss Alice Pope, whoso illness was mentioned in last week's is slowly improving. She is now under the treatment of Pr. Pavis, of Marion. Several extra trains passed here over the C.

K. N. yesterday going south. It looks like a heavy movement of freight over the pepular llock Island is soon to take place. We call the attention of our readers to the advertisement Vf tho Peabody fair.

This will undoubtedly be the best county fair held in the state and will he largely attended from every part of the county. It will be a success. The new post office cabinet of boxes has arrived and will bo placed in position in tho building to be occupied by tho new hardware store. The cabinet is very handsome, very convenient and will show up with anyolhec in the county. The next thing we want is a postal order office.

J. Pavis, of El Dorado, the patentee of the Pavis cooker, was in town with a view to engaging in business. He is an excellent tinsmith and a very nice gentleman, and will make Lineoluville a good citizen. It is probable that ho will become an auxiliary of tho new hardware store. Tho Marion Fair this year has been quite a success, some fine racing being shown.
