An exchange truly says: The way to build up a town is to believe in it-become inspired with a faith that there is a future for it and for every citizen to lend a helping hand in making it what it ought to be.

This in brief, is a'loca) public spirit which does not hesitate to make a present sacrifice in the faith that it will make the town we live in better in the future. Hough, Isaacson, Have just opened out at Corning, a very large stock of LUiWB LOCAL LACONICS. Mr. Corbin visited Atchison last week. Bail Harris visited Atchison Monday.

We noticed S. C. Brown and Wm. Groves of Seneca in town Sunday. Will Brodrlck, formerly of this place, was here again the first of the week on a visit.

Ed. Johnson and Charley Graham went to Wetmore on Saturday to have a good time. We have a common Interest in the improvement of our town. All should work together. Lew Baker has returned to town and is now assisting his father in waiting on their many customers.

Work was commenced Monday on the foundation for the new Presbyterian church on Pacific St. Geo. Balcom went to Irving on Sunday to take charge of the office at that place during the absence of the regular agent. T. Ilorton moved into town Saturday, lie would build a house but he can't get carpenters All busy with three months work engaged.

M. W.Perkins accompanied by Miss Grace and Master Homer went to Seneca on Saturday. Miss Grace remained a few days to visit friends. Henry Walters' horse ran away Monday morning and was badly cut by coming in contact with a barbed wire fence. A.

B. Kenny reports his two acres of walnuts up and looking fine. Bro. K. we are coming out to see them ere long.

The playing of "Miralda, the Cigar Girl of Cuba; or the Justice of Tacon" at Morris' Opera House on Tuesday and Wednesday the auspices of the Military company was the event of the season, and is sad by many to be the best entertainment yet given in Wetmcre. But little time was spent in rehearsing, yet those taking part are to be congratulated upon the success with they filled their respective roles. Of Miss Howard, who played "Miralda" we need not speak. It was of course perfect. "Mad Cecil" by Mrs.

Dorsey was also above criticism. Willard Lyman as "Seth Swap, of Jonesville, brought the house down and covered himself all over with glory. "Count Alamonte" was well played byF. M. Jeffery.

We have heard many compliments passed on Miss Vinnie Pursley as "Loise," while O. Bates as "Tacon" made as good a looking Governor as you will often find. The minor parts by E. T. Letchworth, A.

Anderson M. Mc-Faden, Eugene Sullivan, J. A. Cobb, and J. J.

Pursley were also well played The skipping rope dance In the opening Bcene by Miss Howard was a new feature and especially fine. The farce, "A Soldier From the War" was a success and the closing tableau was very pretty, Miss Fanny Letchworth impersonating the Goddess of Liberty. "Miralda" was presented at Ha vensville last evening (Thursday) by the same cast as here.
