Hunt, we visited the Gaston ten milas south of Glen Elder taking supper with Joe Gaston and viewing the fine farm places of Cyrus, Joseph and their father; and again this week, in visit -icgLone Hill lodge, we had occasion to sample their hospitality. Joe. Cook, of Ionia, spnnt several days in Glen Elder this week. Wind storms have done considerable damage in Lincoln county this week. Childrens day at the two cburches was well attended and very interesting. The county normal is is in fall blast at Beloit, and pretty girls are nunaer -ous there.

The harvest of small grain has commenced. About a half a crop will be the result. The Cottage Home hotel is receiving anew coat of paint on the interior. F. W.

W. Heaton, who has this week located among us and opened up in the practice of medicine. The doctor comes among us well recommended from the state of Pennsylvania, and that he wiil enter right into a largo and lucrative practice is a foregoing conclusion. rv i. T-v.

Elliott Clover attempted his life again last Sunday.

It was only a week ago that we mentioned Mr. Clover's attempt at self destruction by an endeavor to hang himself, and last Sunday while at the well on his farm, drawing water for the stock he drew a heavy clasp knife across his abdomen, cutting about an inch deep, and failing in this, plunged the knife into his side and hammered it in clear to the clasp with a rock; by this time he was discovered, assistance was called and Dr. Houtp, of this city, was hurriedly summoned to attend him. It is thought the wound is not serious and the probate juJge has been notified to take chargo of the unfortunate would be suicide. We stopped at L.

J. Hunt's Jewell couuty farm a few days ago long enough to hinder him awhile in his work of tickling the bosom of mother nature with a corn plow, and to take an account of stock.
