The entertainment given by Prof. Basel class in vcal i-nc at Ualon Hall last Tuesday evening was a very Ilatteriug success, taking into consideration the short time the young people have been receiving instruction. The majority of the pupils had no knowledge of music or its rudiments when they began, but in a short thxe have learned to read the notes quite readily.

The chorus selections were all very good and were well rendered by the class. The duet 4-0 Tell us Merry Dirds." Iy Caddie Robinson and Prof. Basel was a beautiful song and was charmingly given. 'Whispering Hape." by Misses Emma Stewart and Lulu Thompson was a duet full of mjlcidy and well alapted lo Miss Stew art's clear soprano. They succeeded in eliciting the wrapt attention of the audience.

Mh Maud Irwin's character song. in the Rain," was very well rendered and evoked considerable merriment. "Onlv Thee' by Miss Stewart and J. II. Basel was a good selection, showing off to advantage Mr.

Basel's fine tenor. The quartette "Disturb not my Dreaming," Messrs Basel and Covert and Misses Schmidt and Thompson was fahly ren lered and was probably as dillicult as any piece on the programme. "Come Silver Moon," by Miss Schmidt and Prof. Bael was a very pretty selection, and "No Sir'" the humorous song by Miss Carrie Robinson and Prof. Basel was very laughable.

"Nellie" the grand march song by the 24 little girls was done very nicely, although the cramped stage room operated against its best presentation. The little girls kept step admirably and sang very Avell indee.i, having had only four rehearsals. The entertainment may be regarded as quite a success throughout, and in view of this the one proposed by Mr. Basel for Christmas may be anticipated as something still belter.
