Alma Jordan was born July 11, 1883, and died June 24, 1894, aged 10 years, 11 months and 14 days.

She leaves a father and mother, five sisters and a brother to mourn her departure. The funeral took place at the home of her parents and was conducted by Rev. Gwens, after which the remains were laid lo rest in the Winner cemetery. 'A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home.

The Register has lately adopted the Republican party of this county and is laying down the law somewhat like a Dutch uncle talking through a cocked lint. Read the following gems from the Register, remembering all the time that it is a Republican paper: "It is said that more than four-fifths of last year's murderers were men of no occupation. A salary of nlty thousand a year would keep most of us from feeling any great alarm over the financial condition of the country. The great Pullman strike is great indeed. Already fourteen railroads are tied up and the movement has only begun.

King Pullman had best "come down." Pre convention deals must be well masked this year of our Lord. The wishes of the people must be consulted or you'll bear something drop like a brick in a kettle of mush. How thoughtful and patriotic the offer of certain New Pork banks to replace from their vaults the gold withdrawn from the government treasury. Such patriotism is calculated to add great hunks of confidence which will tide the country along until the time arrives for another bond issue. The soundest plank in the Populist platform is the demand for a service ension law.

The demand is just, ut the leveling of rank is liable to make the measure unpopular among the shoulder-strap gentry. That sort of trimming on bills has been responsible tor the loss of many a worthy measure in committee rooms. Why not the primary election plan for the nomination of candidates for office? Because it knocks the political boot-legger out of employment and reduce the chronic offlce-hunter's possibilities to a minimum. Because the party boss must let go the strings and give all the people a voice in deciding who shall till the offices of trust? The Populist party is largely the outgrowth of packed caucuses and boss ridden conventions of the old parties. We believe the primary scheme the only plan yet proposed to do away with huckstering conventions.

In this blessed country we have no shot-gun policy no Tammany no ballot-box stuffing. But we do still use the political shell-game the ringster's pride the offlce-hunter's delight the chronic's "last chance" the old moss-grown party convention. Give us instead the primary election.
