appropriate resolutions, to assist committees on platform to build according to the wish of the people they represent. Kev. V. H. Biddison, of Marysville, Sup't Pub.

Instruction of Marshall is recommended veiy highly as being a suitable candidate for the office of state superintendent. XIXO.XO.XF.X The 73d anniversary of the organization known as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, was celebrated at this place last Tuesday according to program published two weeks ago; but owing to the rain and mud the attendance was less than had been expected, yet a larger crowd could not have enjoyed themselves so well. The church was filled until all standing room was occupied, to hear Bto. Don Allen of Bellville deliver his oration on the subject of Odd Fellowship, which we believe raised the order several degrees in the estimation of many of our people. Smith Centre was well represented, and the Smith Centre Cornet Band did itself much credit in the performance of its part of the exercises; they were a jolly crowd.

Rev. McMillan's address set forth that the Order occupied a very high position in the world, being only second to the church: Rev. W. T. Douglas, of St.

Paul's church, Clay Centre, cheerfully indorsed the principles of Odd Fellowship, or any other organization whose main object was to advance the spirit of friendship and troth-erly love. The day passed off very pleasantly, and Lebanon may well feel proud of the undertaking. The people have been told all along that the mortgage companies do not want the land; that all they desire is their interest. But times'liave changed. The prospects now are very encourageing for a boom in real estate, and capitalists are now after the farms in dead earnest.

Every term of court shows a large increase in the number of foreclosure cases, this increases the number of landlords and tenants. When the government owns and controls all banks, public confidence will.be established; money will no longer hide in private vaults; it will flow easily and naturally through the channels of trade, doing its work without hindrance. To-day there is no confidence in the banks, money hides itself producing an unnatural scarcity. Bankers corner it for speculativie purpose, and to destroy values, and bleed industry. The borrower is bled in an inverse ratio of his ability to pay. Our present banking laws are the curse of the, industrial and commercial world.

Government banking will do away with all evils of the present system. What makes the difference whether the people are robbed by crowned heads with a hereditary title, or by a mushroom aristocracy whose rank is based on their pock et-book. Cincinnati Herald. A delegate convention of the People's party of Smith county, has been called to convene at Smith Centre on May 21, at 1, p. for the purpose of electing 7 delegates, with each an alternate, to attend the state convention at Wichita June 15.

Also 9 delegates and alternates to attend the congressional convention at Colby on June 2. Also 7 delegates to attend the Senato-rial convention at Phillipsburg, at 10 a. on Saturday, May 28th. Unless otherwise ordered by Tp. Committeemen, the township caucuses will be held at 2, p.

May 14th. Each township is entitled to 4 delegates in the county convention. Now is the time, gentlemen, to do the best work; enthusiastic mass meetings may be held later with a good result, but the most important work, upon which depends largely the success of political reform, can only be done at our township caucuses. We recommend that delegates to county, senatorial, congressional, and state conventions, be sent instructed; also, armed with CW Sm-eckles of California is worth forty million dollars, every cent of it being made out of sugar. Nebraska Eagle.

He must be awfully sweet. i Falmouth, Ky. Guide I Large salaries beget luxury and corrup-i tion.".
